I just watched , "in between things" , not expecting much , yet another cheap zombie flick crap......

Now I regret wasting this flick watching it like this and not viewing this on a good friday/ saturday night :(

I think it's better than shaun of the dead....yes , I just had to say that...

Sars wars made me laugh every 5 mins.....shaun didn't.....

I'm somewhat anoyed that shaun still gets debated while this little gem gets virtually no attention at all...

You'd better down the thai version for I'm not sure a certain scene won't make it uncut passed certain countries ( looks at those poor german yankee blighty sobs :P ) censorship policies....

Yeah, true there's some crap cgi in it , and at times the movie becomes quite kiddy...AND it loses steam at the end ....

but still....easily head ,shoulders and hips above all Horror crap made this year so far.... -----> IMO <------

To summarize , man this flick was  F*R*E*S*H

Or is it just me again ? ( :matrix: U !!! )

Thought this thread was going to be slagging off Sars Wars, but I'm glad to see someone else enjoyed this movie.

As you said very funny, sometimes kiddy and sometimes made you cringe.

I love how it took this piss out of itself, other movies & Thailand. Remember the part about the "Stop Zombie" antidote, everyone was all upbeat and hopeful then they tell them it was made in Thailand and everyone groans.

DVD cost me ?8 ($4 ish) and it was worth every penny.

Why the [black spoilers] still attached - zombie fetus scene [/black spoilers] ; pro-life radicals are gonna explode in outrage :wacky:

It's just , what 3-5 secs ? It can be cut out unnoticed - I'm sure it will be done so in at least a few countries....
They'll leave the scenes with the [black spoilers] zombie baby itself [/black spoilers] still in ofcourse....
They can't cut him out completely.....and it's been done before anyway....

I doubt that this scene will be cut out in Germland. It is quite harmless.

geezus says thumbs up, so i`ll play satans part here a bit.

amateurish rip off material that looks a tad better in terms of cinematography than the other losers from thailand i had watched this year.

i found it boring all the way, too predictable; worthy of bombing, cuz res evil 2 was shitty as well, but still 5 times "better" (*clearing throat*) than sars wars.
dunno whats the target group for this (do thai producers aim for an international audience at all ?), i dont belong to it.
score ? ~35% max, personally i give it only 23/100 :moon:

"fresh" u say ? hmmm, i was born in the early 70s, been a horror aficionado since age 14, had my "hardcore fan years" between 1990-95, watched a whole bunch of movies in my life from all kinda genres & countries; and for me, "sars wars" is everything but fresh.

Just yesterday managed to see about an hour of it with a friend over a bottle - would see it all, but we were already late for a little alcohol meeting (just turned it on to see about 5 minutes and finally get what it was exactly like, then just couldn't turn it off for that hour :wacky: ). Much like Geezus, I regret I didn't just sit to see it in its entirety some quiet evening in no hurry.

I think it kicked ass mostly because of it sheer 'sillyness', so to speak. The scene with "- And it's made in Thailand! - Ooooooo" is one of my favourites (mind you, I've seen just that hour) and is one of the reasons it's so funny. Of course it borrows heavily and quite shamelessly from tons of different movies, but I think that's the charm of it and it's supposed to be obvious...

btw I think it mainly spoofs those dumb Blade movies and it's really good at it since you can't really tell that from just looking at it - it seems to be mainly a Star Wars/Resident Evil parody, but I think Blade is the main target here :googley: And, uhm, was I the only one, who thought it has some rather obvious references to the Ebola Syndrome?

And just to clear thing, I'm about Knokk TuRnoo's age too and seen my share of garbage. Still, I think it's funny and would give it ~6.5/10, if not 7. Of course, I have not seen it all, so that might change once I do today or tomorrow

my strongest assumption is the spoof element simply didnt work for me even a bit. left me really cold ('normally' i appreciate cartoonishly outrageous motives) :?
add the obvious lack of real directorial skills and other minor & major inconsistencies (that alone wouldnt hurt too much with a flick like that) and u got yourself a lamer.

must admit, i got pretty worked up about many scenes being (almost or maybe even completely, but surely deliberately) a 1 to 1 -unfunny- copy of shots/sequences from other flicks; horror and non horror; intended spoof or plain copying due to lack of original visions and ideas.

i wish thai cinema all the best, a fertile film industry over there would only help my asian movie fetish to be satisfied furthermore, but so far my choices of thai flicks (various genres) have turned out to be ballonies for the most part; sars wars i find to be another one of those.
cheapo trash meeting pop culture`s desires we get enough from hollywood and a little dose of "crazy & over the top" aint nothing new either, so imho, those guys in thailand have to come up with a formula different from what to me personally aint tastin "fresh" in no way.
happy for yall other guys tho that u apparently could get some entertainment out of this gem.

Its still on my download queue, I ran out of hdd. What country is it from? I'm now a big fan of Chinese comedy movies, mainly... hell solely because of Stephen Chow. This guy has made all the best comedy films ever made, pretty much back to back... amazing!

Does it compare to that kind of comedy? From Beijing with love, God of Cookery, King of Comedy, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle?

no. doesnt. not in the least actually. its basically a popcorn teen horror spoof with a lotta trash appeal and imho (almost a total) waste of time.
u can definitely think "colourful paper mache star wars type set+house of the dead/res evil motives+a patchwork mess of a direction=sars wars".

its thai. i find thai "humour" very uhmmm.... "special" (im sure all gays, trannies, cyber-hippies and the likes will find it appealing but i aint one of em).

not a chow fan, but he did manage to entertain me quite so often in the last 12, 13 years, so heres my faves (of those u didnt mention):

mad monk, royal tramp, forbidden city cop, tricky master
theres some hk comedies that do compare to "that kind of comedy", from the top of my head:
looking for mr perfect, love is a many stupid thing, shanghai shanghai & a selection of the best of hk`s infamous vampire spook fu comedies, that combine outrageous humour hk style, decent martial arts and moody off beat and creative film making (encounters of the spooky kind, mr. vampire, spiritual trinity, mr. vampire 3. other (vampire comedies) are okay or average/sub par but watchable, the rest sucks ass)

...and there went any respect you had out of the window....

You don't like this movie . You probably can't stand people raving about it. Fine.

Now quit bitching out your opinion - I for one got the message the first post.

and Fresh isn't anywhere between good and bad - it's just I don't watch much asian stuff - hence fresh as, in & for a change....

I'll still take this kinda stuff over most boooring japanese crap that does have "good directing" ( whatever that etheral essence maybe) ANYDAY....

@ spud - it's decent OK ? Just don't expect something in HUSTLE's league......think JUNK / Versus

Well I've just watched Kung Fu Hustle (Only Chow film I've seen), and I think the humour is exactly the same. Some very funny bits, some silly bits & some bits that made me cringe (the chasing sequence).

Alright Sars Wars doesn't have great direction or anywhere near the the budget that Hustle obviously had, but both kept me entertained for an hour and a half.

Don't cancel it Spud, download it and give it a chance.

We need more discussions like this about the films wev've downloaded from the board, how about a reviews section on the boards Spud.

yeah, give it a chance and judge for yourself (is this a competition as to who will convince spud ?!?!? lolol)

longish, for u geezus in particular:
u read me all wrong geezus and u r taking it on a personal level. bad move.

the trannie statement: im referring to my observations of the combined impression i got from thai flicks.
a movie like ie "bang rajan" is hardly aimed at any gay etc audience, nor featuring any transsexual type motives.
its a generalization; if i had to paint a quick verbal picture of thai cinema for a friend, i`d say "the bird cage on shrooms meets rocky balboa in a frenzy". take that stuff easy, its not like im saying, sars wars fans are fags.
also, im not judging peoples sexual preferences, if u are upset by it, its YOU who does.
for the record: i only know 1, 2 handful of thai comedies, the majority of them do feature transsexual/gay motives or even put all the emphasis on it (check the brand new thai comedy rls "adventures of iron pussy" for that matter ;) )

i dont like this movie, that much u got right.
why ? cuz imho, its a shite effort. thats what im saying.
i honestly LOVE people raving about it (or expressin any kind of opinion).
hey its fun. we re all little amateur movie critics, why u gettin worked up about it (if u do cuz u feel its an insult im mentioning "gay" and "sars wars" in one sentence, im sorry) ?
i could as well accuse YOU of not being able to deal with people not complying with u.

so when i say something positive about a movie its alright, but when i say something negative, its bitching and "bad" ???? get outta here. :P
if i find something crap, i say its crap. smart people should be capable of dealing with it.
i respect your taste, but i might find it sucky (im NOT actually saying that alright ?!). so what ?! most peoples tastes are different from mine. i can still sleep well, even after reading a slating review of a fave of mine.

i watch a lotta asian stuff, hence the asian touch of it holds no "cool, exotic flavour" for me anymore.
imo, sars wars copies japanese and hollywood styles in equal parts btw.
s/o on the net sharing many preferences and experiences with peeps like u will find your opinion on something more representative and trustworthy, people that got more in common with me, are probably better off trusting my judgement/come to a similar conclusion.

take that shit more lighthearted. nobody expects for u to defend the flick with your life ;) :beerchug:

ps: im with u concerning japanese horror of late. quo vadis ? i dunno, but im not really entertained anymore.
lots and lots and lots of hollow scripts and formulaic repetitive movie making :(

Sounds like the Japanese are getting Hollywood syndrome.

Maybe an RIAA/Hollywood bot has downloaded Sars Wars and they're in the process of throwing $80 million at Uwe Boll to make the Hollywood remake.

I was just trying to do the ones he'd written and directed, yeah some of his old ones are great too.

Got kung fu hustle after i saw it, and forbidden city cop on dvd a bit later, and am going to try out Royal Tramp 1 and 2 to see what they are like (infact i just bought the dvds, seen as though not one film i've seen of his isn't piss funny, i'm pretty sure its going to be the same) :)

Oh come on, that's the whole type of humour, its pure spoof/looney tunes. He does the same thing without cgi in god of cookery... infact its probably far more effective without the cgi come to think of it.

The bit with the knives is the best bit

You mean camp comedy right? Like this:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... utie+honey
Okay that ones japanes though... a lot of anime is kind of camp too. Yeah that can piss me off royally sometimes. John Waters is the kind of hollywood version of gay cinema. Doesn't mean your gay if you watch it just means its camp comedy and/or famboyent, often way overbaring and cheesy.

how about a reviews section on the boards Spud.

I already started making that part of the newer frontpage:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/horrorhasaho ... -06-05.jpg
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=8553

Splitting it into sections and then using the forums for the userlist and 'releases'.

On the other hand it will have lots of reviews from me bitching about Alien 4 and why Alien3 is 1 million times better... which it obviously is. ;)

You can post movie reviews in this section anyway no problems, thats kind of what its for, discussion of movies :)

royal tramp (1) is ALL THAT :D rt2 a major set back imo.
lots of the stuff just didnt work at all, plus it appears as if they simply didnt have too much good stuff left up their sleeves (script, jokes, choreography, acting and other efforts .... ).
must have used it up to a serious degree for the first one (which shows, its an awesome flick, working both as a comedy and easy going period martial arts actioner abiding by the rules of new wave hk m.a. cinema).
not bad tho imo, but as royal tramp is almost outstanding, rt2 subsequently falls flat anyways.

camp comedy.... hmmmm. ive seen cutie honey and was surprised. some stuff in there worked pretty great i thought.
thats one definitely not being made for me but it had some good fun going on (just like "Nin X Nin"), BUT if C.H. is camp comedy, then what im referring to about some typical vibes in thai movies definitely isnt; and vice versa.
as u said tho, its japanese. the manga/anime culture is something in its very own rights and realms; trying to find a match there would probably be far fetched.
