was just browsing the upcoming games at http://www.play.com and came (almost litterally too) across this

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=rcs& ... tle=689114

basically a pc game entitled George A Romero's City of The Dead

Due for release on 01/02/2006

Review
"City of the Dead" begins as four desperate survivors escape a ravaged zombie infested city by helicopter. After making it to the remote island of Isla Mortal, an accident destroys their only means of escape. Unbeknown to them the island is home to a top secret military installation, overrun by the walking dead. Armed with an arsenal of traditional and futuristic weaponry, players must battle the living dead from dusk 'till dawn in series of abandoned locales. With split-screen co-op missions, party mode, and four-player online feature, "City of the Dead" also promises a range of multiplayer features that allow gamers to play as human or zombie.

oh and you see the evil dead game too? I like the idea of horror licensing out into games...

okay, tie-in games have sucked, but ever since Goldeneye they seem to have been trying a damn sight harder don't you think?

yes i agree they have been trying harder since, and this has tom savini in it, it looks pretty good i think, not too sure on the mention of futuristic weapons though, especially since a lot of the screenshots look very dawn of the dead 70s style american surburbia

I hate that, lead shooters should never be replaced... its a lot more fun with a realistic gun

I have to say not a fan of futuristic weapons in games, they nearly always suck.

Been playing on Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick sicne it came with my xbox. The problem is its way too linear, they had a nice idea, but didn't have a good enough plot and time put into it to make it really work.

lol and to think that was only done to cover up a mistake during filming :wacky:

You played on Resident Evil remake for the GCN? There's something like the screwdriver in that. Basically you die once your bitten, but there's a safety weapon system, so you stick a knife in the zombies head if it gets too close. Doesn't kill em, but there's something comical about a zombie with three small daggers stuck in its head, :wacky:

that's cool. i thought that in a situation when you run out of bullets, you should always be able to switch to scrwedriver, punch him in the ear and run as fast as you can
i dont have any console so i'm out of luck :( i should have RE 1 to 3 for PC somewhere (still never played them) but i guess you're talking about RE4 right?

definatly agree there, cant think of a single game off the top of my head with futuristic weapons that are any good,
the worst kind of futuristic weapons are things that are just a rocket launcher with a more futuristic name like "hyper ecto plasma rocket projectile launching infantry gun" or something equally as stupid, or a assault rifle being called a Flame Tipped Acid Capsule rapid-fire pulse gun

on the re4 subject i liked the action button use to defend youself at close range, its something most games should have, even if u just kick out at something its more realistic then just standing there cycling through all your weapons before dying

you know thats just what i thought too :) , i especially like that it states you can play it co-op multiplayer and play on the side of survivors or zombies, which is something ive been waiting so long to do, i know if you play resident evil/biohazard outbreak online when you die you rise to become a playable zombie but all in all that game sucked as

#1 here in england the online was removed
#2 i wouldnt want to play a ps2 game online anyway
#3 see 1 and 2 together

a friend at work told me there is already a game out where you can die and become a zombie but he couldnt remember the name, maybe dastardly & spuddley  (sorry) can help? i think he said its a pc or ps2 game

It was to cover up a continuity error... the whole scene was shot after to make up for the f*ckup with the sweater. Watch it being tied round the waist, then the screwdriver zombie grabs it and won't let go. next scene he's running down the corridoor without the sweater. Basically, the whole scene was to cover up the mistake with the sweater, since it disappeared for no reason. Savini thought, well why don't we have a zombie pop out and we'll shove a screwdriver in his head.

Its like the dagger alteration reaction shot in Evil Dead, why show that at all? Continuity fuckup with the deadite holding the knife. Good tip is to scan the dailies for these and take lots of continuity snapshots when filming. Very often when you see an isolated or reaction shot, its to cover up a mistake or a scene that doesn't make as much sense without it.

Sweet way of dealing with it of course, but it was because they made a mistake with the jumper. You should listen to the audio commentry and documentries for these big movies, great audio track and informative documentries.

Not every gaming device has the luxury of a central action button though, but it did work well true. I like scene interactivity, one of the reasons duke nuke em always rocked too.

@co-op, i like lan co-op through a single player environment. Its adaptive to varying gameplay, it really is co-operative, whereas vs. bots really doesn't promote that kind of behaviour. Makes it more fun, at least for me.

edit:
The die and play as zombie i heard of, but i thought it was for a mod for hl, not for a retail game. Then again i definitely read about it somewhere. Sorry i can't place it otherwise.

yeah i also prefer lan co-op as you can actually ask the other players to do something and they might do it, unlike bots who plain wont do anything u ask

lan bf1942 - if you take a squad round the left, ill take a squad round via the sea to the right and we can have the 3rd squad go head on in a couple of tanks..... "ok good plan lets do it...everyone remember to stay down"

You Win The Match

bot bf1942 - if you take a squad round to the left, ill take a sq.... "ATTACK *BANG BANG BANG BOOOOM*

Fred bloogs was killed by Jangi xavotu
jim west was killed by another jap
willy carson was killed by the enemy
milli vanilli was killed by hong kong phooey
everyone else was killed by you because you got pissed off at the bots lack of respect for your superior authority

BF is a nice game, but i have to say its more like Quake 3 online, no1 really gives a shit about co-op, they just go solo :(

Net/Bots... just the same on that game. LAN you have a bit more control, but most of the time there's no co-oping, its just fragging with a friend on the same team.

Game design needs to force it, or at least push the advantage. I got that full spectrum warrior, anyone know what's that like in co-op? Bet it rules, but i haven't looked much into it, and you have to pay for xbox live or something f*cking stupid.

Resident Evil 4 in co-op would have been a sweet game :)

it would indeed

although ive played plenty of lan games and online games of bf1942 with co-op being a big factor, although most were with friends who think the same was as me, the only way to win is through teamwork (god now im quoting argos values :o )

lol the news article says its likely to be at least 4 years away btw :wacky:

Given that fact, I have to wonder if they are just mockup shots, given that it will be 3rd gen by then. So i guess the mockups are "it will looks better than this" shots
