OK... not a horror movie.
But its star is the incomparable Tod Slaughter (1885-1956), the original Sweeney Todd himself !
Some words of history...
In 1952, Tod Slaughter made a series of featurettes for Ambassador Film Productions, shot at Bushey Studios. The writer was no less than John Gilling. And the director was Victor M. Gover.
The series were made with an eye towards television, but were apparently never aired. Six episodes were theatrically released in the form of two "feature" films, KING AT THE UNDERWORLD in 1952 and MURDER AT SCOTLAND YARD two years later.
One episode, MURDER AT THE GRANGE (shot under another title, "Death at the Festival") was released separately. It was followed by another short film, A GHOST FOR SALE, but in spite of the same cast principals and director, it wasn't part of the main series.
Other episodes were shot but never released in any form.
Some months ago, for the first time, BBC aired MURDER AT THE GRANGE to the surprise of everyone.
As I told, this movie was shot under another title, and the new card title was apparently made carelessly, as they simply forgot to mention the name of the star !!!

Some words about the main series. It's about John Morley (Patrick Barr), an ex-inspector of the Yard, now a private. With the help of his secretary, Eileen Trotter (Tucker McGuire), he tracks arch-criminal Terence Reilly (Tod Slaughter) who perpetually escape from jail. Terence Reilly has a brother (also Tod Slaughter) who is also a criminal...

Hope you'll like it. It runs only 31mns. The image is good but not very contrasted. If someone knows how to "repair" this, it would be nice to share again once the image ameliorated... Thank you !
