I'm still sharing it too. Be patient. :)

Can you see me as a source? I'm usually on Razorback or one of the ProbenPrinzes.

Finally completed and watched it right away. No spoilers bellow.

First of all: Brilliant preformances! Both Polanski and Depardieu are great offcource, but also the typist was amazing. So few lines he had, yet so much subplot he put through only with tiny movements and facial expressions. A brilliant actor. I'm very much interested in seing what else he has made...

The story is very well written with great attention to detail. I knew I was going to enjoy it very early on as I understood it was all gonna be played out inside one single room. This meant to me that the main focus would be on plot and acting, without relying on more 'superficial' instruments such as fancy action or beautifull scenery. The way a semingly unimportant phrase is said or an item is filmed, which later comes to have great importance is pure genius at times. Many nice metafores are used to great effect. Especially liked when the wine glass was filled up, and the constant rain and dripping. The characters are offcource alluring and the forementioned subplots can be found in abundance, something which is very often sourly missed in most films. The film is another great example of how subtle suggestion can be much more effective than intricate explainations.

A little sad is the fact that the idea behind this film has later been used several times, so that it loses some of it's surprise ending shock effect. I find it hard to say which of the three I've seen (including this one, you know the other two when you've seen this) is the most effective, but all are very good in their own way. I guess I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the other two. Still, this is the one that came first so I guess it deserves credit and the most applause (although I'm sure the idea has been used before this also).

I see now the director is the same that made the equally brilliant 'Cinema Paradiso'. I'll have to check out more of his work as well...

Thanks for your review, John_D. Perhaps it could be used on the main page, although the flick is low quality and perhaps not exactly horror?

As I said, I was hunting for this movie for years. I don't think the idea was used the same way it functions here. Perhaps I'm not very intelligent but I have to confess I couldn't predict the ending to the very moment where everything was explained. The only thing that comforts me a bit is that I know some ppl who didn't manage to understand it even AFTER the explanation. I'm really glad you liked it, if you have any links to other movies by the same director plz, post them.

Oh, and I really loved the scene with filled glass.

Since I wrote that I've remembered 4 more films which are based upon the same idea, the earliest (and probably best) from 1990. What makes this special however is the clear inspiration from Kafka's 'Prosessen' (only remember the norwegian name for it). In fact it could almost be considered an adaption. Whereas the novel failed IMO however, this flourished. You might wanna check out the movie called 'The Interview' if you have not allready done so. Not as good as this, but still pretty thought provoking.

I've seen the Interview. I would not compare it to Pure Formality, but rather to Usual Suspects. Both are great movies.

I agree, but both still have very strong references to Kafka.

I've noticed in my queue there were many people waiting for the same chunks of file 2, so I guess it must have died out. That's why I'm going to keep this one on Powershare for a while, grab it if you want it.

Why didn't you ask then? It's shared until it's well-spread again.

I assure you, this idea has occured to me. If I only knew how...

And then there's still the matter of subs. They are hardcoded in the VCD version and were not on the source DVD the avi was made from.

adding the audio should be fairly simple. just strip it from the mpg, splice them together with your favorite audio proggy then add it to the avi with nandub. Only problem would be to get it synched.

the subs are a bigger problem though... maybe check out a few sub sites and see if we can find them?

No subs available.

As for the sound, that is precisely what I meant: to get them synced is a problem. I am able to do simple muxing, but what use can it be if it's not synchronised properly? :)
