Asian Invasion (2006)

In a new three-part series Jonathan Ross travels to Japan, Hong Kong and Korea to explore the world's most innovative cinema.

In each episode Jonathan meets Asia's most talked about actors and directors and shares his passion for all aspects of Asian filmmaking with a multitude of clips.

[Official Site]

1 - JAPAN
Jonathan goes to Tokyo to see if Japanese cinema has gone off the boil, as some critics suggest. He meets directors Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) and Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) and surveys the current crop of Japanese films, including the strange tale of a giant squid turned championship wrestler.

He also looks at an extremely odd little monster movie produced by North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il who kidnapped the film's director from South Korea to make his dream project.

This sounds awesome. Heaps of great movies/people there. I have to check this out.
Thanks for pointing out Japanorama too - that sounds just as good too.
Why can't we get tv shows like this in my country??

Only person (or their films) I can think of not in either that I'd like to see about would have to be Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

Cheers mate!

This is a rather crappy show I'm afraid. Jonathan Ross spoils it totally. He's one of the worst presenters I've seen with his "I wanna be cool" attitude. His interviews are meaningless. Stupid questions get stupid answers.

The choice of movies and directors is the obvious one. I'm afraid I'm not so lucky that I haven't seen most of these. I have and therefore the show doesn't deliver even in that namedropping sense and when the background and interview bits are more than empty, this show will be quickly forgotten atleast in my mind.
