See Dennis Hopper get killed via shotgun blast! See Martin Sheen stab a baby!! See the long lost fully uncut plantation scene and all of the footage shot with the Playboy bunnies!! Spend more time with Kurtz and enjoy his insane Manson-esque ramblings!!

This is the incredibly rare 5 1⁄2 hour Apocalypse Now!! Forget about the Redux, this is the real deal, the true, full-fledged vision of one of the greatest films ever made.

Taken from a rare workprint of the film, this one of a kind experience gives you a chance to see Coppola?s vision when it was still forming. This is not the polished, ready-made movie we are used to seeing. This is the rough around the edges, uncut first draft of a film that would go on to change the course of film making as we know it.

In many ways, this is almost a completely different movie, complete with some new characters, new events and new, gloomy fates for a few of the cast. Gone is the familiar Carmine Coppola score that sets the doom-like tone of the film, instead there are miscellaneous Doors songs used to fill in the blank sound spots. For fans of this film, this 2-disc set is a Godsend, a revelation of newfound importance and interest that only adds to the pleasure of watching Apocalypse Now in any form.

That's pointless unfortunately, the purpose is cropping is that Xvid spends bitrate encoding black boarders, in this case, about 50% of your bitrate has gone into encoding the black every frame. The idea is to crop at stage one, ie. the initial encode.

Now the mono conversion, that wouldn't matter if someone did it later, because its not as lossy a conversion, however, cropping the borders is 100% pointless if its already been encoded with them on after the first big re-encode (ie DVDr->Avi). If you want to read up on it, I wrote about why its essential to crop off every single black bit of border here:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=7124
and
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=526

Its the easiest thing in the world, in gknot, you just have to hit the up arrows until it removes all the black, and then its cropped. Takes maybe 10seconds :)

If you crop off the boarders, the players draw them back on, but the idea is to make sure when its encoding, you are only encoding data thats important, ie. the frame data and not the matting. But someone re-encoding just to crop is a totally pointless, the 'damage' has already been done if you get what it means to not crop, as in they'd make no difference since the encoding has already been affected at stage one of the process, and you can't get better quality through re-encoding, only worse each stage.

Thanks a lot man, I?m on it :) Have you got more of these unreleased stuff? I really love to see what a movie "could have been like" without the "final cutting"...

I'm stupid enough to only use autogk, and as far as I know autogk doesnt crop. Yes I'm a windows bitch, yes I like it all easy, yes to all that, I just dont have the patience to do manual rip without punching my computer and throw my head against the wall, so for my own sanity I kept away from all that, I do not force anyone to download my rips, If you dont want it, dont click it, and if you can do better buy a dvdr copy and make it, I dont want to sound agressive, only setting up my point of view, quality is exactly the same, I can assure that, but well, you would never believe it. Quality is not an issue for me if it was I would buy or download entire dvd's rather that download divx. I tried to crop after the rip in virtual dub, but there was no result, my HD didnt have enough diskspace. I'm very thankfull for all your advises regarding the matter, but like I said dont want it, dont download it.

this is a bit more special than a ordinary movie, i must say.... if you got it on dvd just rip it and release as an dvdr. more easy than that it cant be and the quality will be 99% of the orginal.... riping vhs is another story ofcos... i am not agressive either but rare stuff should be given more attention than ordinary stuff.... just my 0.02 euro.... :argue:

How many people are willing to grab this has a dvdr? asides d0c of course, If there is enough interest I can post an image of the full thing it's about 4 GB, 5 GB tops. It will take quite awhile though my upload is weak, very weak. Just so you can see it's the same thing hehehe, I dont really care. I have it already.

I'd possibly download a DVDr, but if you don't have the bandwidth, I wouldn't bother on ed2k if your considering it. There just isn't the infrastructure to support a release unless you pre-seed it to some people who will help share. That said there's a few DVDr release groups so you'll probably be able to muster some support if you dig around.

Torrent would be a better way to get it out fast given that its a more optimised network.

I'm interested in workprints all of a sudden now lol, but I just checked ebay, and there's only two... Return of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th part umpteen, both by a canadian seller

I do agree with Spud, since the release is so rare and almost everyone will be interested, can't we set a plan for a dvd-r release?
