Another masterpiece by David Cronenberg. Ripped off the original R1 DVD. As usual - with commentary track from the director (use compatible player, like BSPlayer). I love this movie for many reasons - on the one hand, it's very Cronenbergian stuff, on the other hand - it's very much unlike his other flicks. I also like the European "feel" this movie has. I think HHAH members should appreciate the atmosphere of this dark psychological drama.

Was very dissapointed at this, but will be nice to hear his commentary anyway. Oh, and the subs are much appreciated for this one!

Perhaps it would help if you didn't look at it as a Cronenberg movie (although for me this one is still full of elements typical for DC). Anyway, tastes differ, and I know many people reacted this way to Spider, so I'm not surpised to hear this. For me, I guess I was disappointed with this one AT FIRST, but that's because I expected something totally different. The first thing that strikes me is the realistic quality of the movie, so untypical for DC, and the fact that the whole story is about a working-class family, which was never present in his work before, or at least not as central to the plot as here. Once you get into the details, you can see how masterfully it is done. The lighting and the music are beautiful, and skillfully combined with perfect acting.

Cronenberg's comments are the best commentary tracks I know, always very informative, well-balanced, intertwining the academic content with a casual manner. This one is no exception.
