Quote:
First Patrick Huard was a sucessful stand-up comedian, then he became an actor and he was sucessful doing that as well. He directed a few music video and came back to stand-up comedy and was very sucessful again. He acted in some more films and came up with the idea for a bilingual movie, it ended up being the most sucessful Canadian film of all-time, it was last summer Bon Cop Bad Cop. Then he was approched to direct this film which is only collaborated on the dialogues. Les 3 P'tits Cochons is the first feature film of a very versatile - just in case you hadnt noticed that so far - French-Canadian star. Its got mistakes, its very clumsy sometimes, it lacks identity in a way cause it seems like it never knows wether it should be a deep drama about relationship or simply a joke, a slapstick comedy but, it works just fine.

The opening of the film is wrong, the characters are badly introduced and it has a hard time getting started but when it finally does it becomes a somehow entertaining film.

Its about three brothers, unfaithfulness, relationships and sex. The title refers to the Three Little Pigs story, one gets kicked out of his house goes to his brother's and that one gets kicked out as well and they go to the last brother's. You get the patern ? So its obvious there is a character that represents the «wolf» but that part is badly rendered, obssession for sex can also represent the «wolf» though, cause thats what get the brothers kciked out of their home.

Les 3 P'tits Cochons isnt very subtle but its sometimes witty. Its not always thoughtful but its got some nice dramatic scenes. Its not always funny but some bits are simply laugh-out-loud hilarious. The film is very uneven and I still wonder why it works so well in the end.

The acting must be what makes us buy that story. Claude Legault who started out as a comedian but has become one of the greatest actor and writer - he didnt write this film - of Quebec makes his character very believable and delivers his dialogues like a real person does. Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge who has won lots of notoriety in the last few years - and appeared in this year's crappy Nitro - plays the yougest brother who's kinda dumb, he's sorta the comic relief of the three, well he has his dramatic moments and he aint the only one to be funny. Paul Doucet is the older brother, the one in control of his life - and libido - who shows a lot of wit. He is quite effective as well just like everyone else in the cast really, except for Mahée Paiment of course.

The film isnt trying to be shocking or to break any rules. Its not trying to be too deep or to show a reality about anything. Its simply honest, trying to please and it works. Not bad.
