How often does a movie leave you with nothing but a big "WOW" on your kissers?

Do you like it rough? Do you like it real? Are you sick and tired of those politically correct "I love you dad"-moments in feel-good movies which only makes you feel queasy because it is nothing but a pinnacle of cheesy forgery? Do you long for stories that actually do go all the way, yet somehow keep their twisted integrity, and you just want to fall deeper into the well of filth to see if you can ever reach the bottom, if there even is one?
Thankfully Irreversible raped Trainspotting up the ass, and Ex Drummer is here for you as the bastard outcome.

Watch it. Love it. Live it. hehe....

yeah, I was wondering about that... is it worth it once you've seen the movie though? I've read alot of books that I've enjoyed the movie of, and often been a bit disappointed. I mean, if the adaption to film is well done, then the book basically offers little or nothing new. There are some exceptions of course, but generally it's a bit of a drag...

Ps: is it even availible in english?

i'm not sure if the novel has actually been translated into english , or if it's being sold outside belgium (and holland).

possibly the success of this movie, and the international attention the writer is getting because of it, makes releasing the book in translation financially more interesting for a publisher.

the book is different from the movie.
it has a different tone / feel / style.

what i like most in the movie is the music (arno, millionaire, kowlier, ...), and the way the flemish setting feels natural.
what makes the book different in my opinion, is the typical cynical-yet-sensitive tone of brusselmans' writing. It adds a sense of warmth to the story / dialogue that's not in the movie.

the movie is harder, rougher, less layered.
that extra dimension of compassion in the book is what made me say "you should read the book". I think it makes the story richer, more balanced.

The adaptation feels a little strange, simplified.

Oh well, i guess the way the depth of a novel gets leveled down into a movie script, is probably a common phenomenon native english readers are more familiar with.
I suppose I'm not used to a recent novel like this one, originally written in my mother tongue, ending up being a movie.

nor Irreversible nor Trainspotting, but quite enjoyable - few scenes are real eye openers, but definitely form over plot, characters made out of cardboard, quite pointless...

If there's someone still not convinced of the greatness of this film, this little clip has to convince anyone:

I'm having trouble getting the subs to work - I converted the .sub to srt using vobsub, and everything looks fine, but it's not loading the subs when I run the .avi (the filenames are the same and all)

Am I missing something simple or is it something to do with the original .sub or avi?

:beerchug:

Can't wait to see this
