Already have this but to anyone on the fence about downloading, get it ASAP. Highly disturbing excursion into a French criminal underworld and the depraved sexual milieu within it. Some fantastic cinematography in this one. I listed this among the most "disturbing" films I've seen to date in another thread, but it isn't a directionless arbitrary violence driving this movie, it's very well written, with an unsettling score, an intentionally uncomfortable directing style, and a premise that will keep you guessing.

I have to agree with the above. This has a level of wrongness all to itself. Some harsh viewing.

I would agree with the previous post. This is on my top 10 list of disturbing movies.
It’s a must in any collection. If you are unsure then just read some of the reviews on the film.

Synopsis: Gaspar Noé's Irreversible utilizes the same storytelling technique used by Christopher Nolan in Memento and Harold Pinter in Betrayal. Consisting of about a dozen scenes, all shot in single takes, Irreversible charts a disturbing night in the life of Marcus (Vincent Cassel), but presents the events in reverse chronological order. The audience eventually learns how the beautiful Alex (Cassel's real-life partner Monica Bellucci) is involved. The film opens with a violent altercation at a gay sex club and works backward to explain how and why the violence occurred. The actors improvised the vast majority of the dialogue starting from a four-page story outline. Irreversible was screened in competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

Reviews: Roger Ebert | Rolling Stone | allmovie | Rotten Tomatoes | IMDb (external reviews)

Quote:
It would be easy and convenient to dismiss Irreversible as blatant sensationalism. But Noe's bruising film is too artfully crafted to write off as exploitation. To see it is to absorb it, even against your will. -- Peter Travers
