Well it's Jean-Luc Godard, you like it or not: a twisted SF story that's pretty intellectual.
In Alphaville, there's only one newspaper: Pravda-Fox News (well in french, it's Figaro-Pravda, Figaro being a real french right-wing newspaper).
In Alphaville, people who love poetry are shot in empty swimming-pools.
In Alphaville, you are shot if you acknowledge your feelings.

But then, I warn you: it's no Blade-Runner, it's a fucking intellectual french movie, computers talk like screwed-up Oracles and such and such.

(But then, don't trust Christopher Mulrooney, the shit-head who talks about this movie on the front-page of the Imdb, "Alphaville" has nothing to do with 2001 nor with Orson Welles, it's much more screwed-up, weird and slow: you are warned (I love it but then that's me))

Criterion wrote:
A cockeyed fusion of science fiction, pulp characters, and surrealist poetry, Godard's irreverent journey to the mysterious Alphaville remains one of the least conventional films of all time. Eddie Constantine stars as intergalactic hero Lemmy Caution, on a mission to kill the inventor of fascist computer Alpha 60.
