Following the events of Night of the Living Dead, we follow the exploits of four survivors
of the expanding zombie apocalypse as they take refuge in an abandoned shopping mall
following a horrific SWAT evacuation of an apartment complex.

Taking stock of their surroundings, they arm themselves, lock down the mall, and destroy
the zombies inside so they can eke out a living--at least for a while. Tensions begin to build
as months go on, however, when they come to realize that they've fallen prey to consumerism.

Soon afterward, they have even heavier problems to worry about, as a large gang of bikers
discovers the mall and invades it, ruining the survivors' best-laid plans and forcing them to fight off both
lethal bandits and flesh-eating zombies

From the 4 disc 'Ultimate Edition':

EXTENDED VERSION
This 139-minute edition is often referred to as "The Director's Cut", when, in fact, the Theatrical edition is George Romero's preferred version. The Extended Version was created to use to premiere the film at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival, and contains numerous additional scenes, gore, and a music score filled with library tracks.

Plot: In 1968, director George A. Romero brought us
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. It became the definitive
horror film of its time. Eleven years later, he would unleash
the most shocking motion picture experience for all times.
As modern society is consumed by zombie carnage, four
desperate survivors barricade themselves inside a shopping
mall to battle the flesh-eating hordes of the undead. This
is the ferocious horror classic, featuring landmark gore
effects by Tom Savini, that remains one of the most i
mportant û and most controversial û horror films in history.
When thereÆs no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the
earth:

The original DAWN OF THE DEAD is back!

Note: The 139 minute "Director's Cut" is actually not Romero's
preferred version. This "Director's cut" is instead the version
rushed into shape for a showing at Cannes. The shorter version
shown theatrically has tighter editing and almost all Goblin's
music. So technically, the theatrical version is the "Final
Director's Cut" and the Cannes version is a "1st director's cut".

Trivia: In the Cannes Cut, the music that is heard when Peter
and Stephen are closing the gates of the mall in an effort to
keep the bikers out (1:54:05) is taken directly from the opening
credits of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975).
