Nice movie, it follow the S.King novel wery well (for a movie) but it is a bit heavy to watch.
I agree little bit with Spudthedestroyer, to much talk, to less action. But this is not Half life, and the "hero" is not Gordon Freeman

I'm painfully aware of that; half-life had a much better executed storyline!

damn this movie sucks. even watching it on double speed with chipmunk voices bored the hell outta me... a bunch of stupid people sitting in a stupid-mart saying stupid things and doing stupid stuff... i guess the only thing i approved was the old hag trying to "stone" that bitch reading from the bible ALL the time... i just wonder why they didnt stab her oder threw her out into the mist right away? would have solved most of their problems and made things a lot less annoying.
my advice if u want to watch a fun monster-movie: go grab that feast-dvd off the shelf and get rid of this junk. avoid at all cost! and to think i was looking forward to it... argh :\

I am not going to get into why I disagree, (Frank Darabont iis a great director btw) but you have to admit. One of the most satisfying head shots in movie history in this movie. Not for the splatter factor, more for god damn she deserved it.

People that go into this expecting just a scary monster movie, are going to be disappointed. There is a multi layered almost Lord of the Flies subplot, and asks the question which were the worst monsters, the ones inside or outside.

hahahh spudthedestroyer - totally agree - and the film is superb for what it is - horror has its levels of terror and outrageousness
Spoiler:
and this one falls into the living nightmare category for the fact that everyone in it knows theyre screwed but yet try and work their way thru it and around it like people or things who will try and survive - and then again you have those who know or think its hopeless and end it right there - King has that knack of knowing what different people will react to certain situations and while it may not be believable to some watching it unfold, i myself have seen people do even more stupider things and make more ridiculous decisions than some of these people did so yeah you can say its realistic.

how i wish i too could get online and ridicule things purely for the sport of it or just to raise some reaction (oh wait i believe i do that all the time hahaha). just when you do it dont come off as some little faggot that id like to track down and viciously decapitate with a dull butter knife - okay okay Carnal calm down we're talking about the film now .... =)

it did sort of slow down to incoherence at one point where the supposed good team was going thru the realization that ms Carmody was quickly gathering more believers and even the book version managed to have the same effect on me but it more than made up for it during the final section of the film

now what ID like to know is how in the HELL these people were going to try and manage to get all these creatures under control later (especially that behemoth that looked something out of a lovecraftian nightmare climbing over the hills ) not to mention all the flying things wandering around (which brought to mind another unlikely possibility of the pteradactyls from Jurassic park being seen flying around : couldnt they just as easily have flown out of range and into the nearest city? doh)
sigh well i guess you cant have perfection in films but so what - the whole thing was entertaining.

One of these should do it:

ps. I'm not sure I'd class the art design in the same league as lovecraftian imagery myself, more lobster brisk :)

Ah ah ah. Of course. ANY MOVIE, seen in these conditions, on double speed with chipmunk voices, would be a bore. If you can't watch a movie normally, it's perhaps better for you to take another hobby.

Quote:
From legendary frightmaster Stephen King and Academy Award nominated director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) comes one of the most tense and terrifying films since The Shining. After a mysterious mist envelops a small New England town, a group of locals trapped in a supermarket must battle a siege of otherworldly creatures... and the fears that threaten to tear them apart. Starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher) and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River) in one of the year's most talked-about performances, The Mist "is one of the best horror movies ever made. Period." (Maryann Johanson, The Flick Filosopher)

'The Mist "is one of the best horror movies ever made. Period." (Maryann Johanson, The Flick Filosopher)' wtf?!? yeah right... there's absolutely NO horror in it... just boredom. she's probably scared of the teletubbies, too. i STILL hate it. >:|

I think she got cut off from completing that sentance, it was meant to say "is one of the best horror movies ever made, if you are a complete retard". However, she was having her. Period.

The answer is in the title, philosopher spealt incorrectly :googley:

On a related note, the answer to any question pertaining to this film's quality is in the movie's title, seeing the German word 'Mist' also means 'dung' (and is most commonly used in swearing, as an equivalent for 'shit!'). ;)

I loved King's original short story, one of his best, but this movie kinda' pissed me off. For one thing, the CGI looked awful in the tentacle sequence and the spider sequence. The tentacle would've looked better just using some good ol' foam-rubber and animating it with puppeteering or animatronics, and King's ambiguous ending was much better. One of the great things about an ambiguous ending, like King's original story, or Carpenter's 'The Thing', is the fact that it leaves you to ponder and make your own predictions about the future... I guess people are more satisfied with tacked-on finality... Sad...
