Fresh off a limited theatrical release and shot in “Robo-monstervision,” a black-and-white retro style reminiscent of old television series and even older movies, Automatons is a tip of the hat to the imagination and humanity of shows such as The Outer Limits and One Step Beyond. The deceptively simple cinematography evokes a time before big-budget CGI--and thus a time when theme and content were more important than empty action and special effects. The story focuses on a lone woman in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been engaging in a futile war of competing philosophies and belief systems. Newcomer Christine Spencer stars as the Girl, who lives in a crumbling laboratory repairing outdated robots while fending off the destructive video beams of the Enemy Leader. Cult horror star Angus Scrimm (Phantasm) stands out as the Scientist who has seen it all.

OK, I have just watched this and will give it a "mini review":

let's start by this: :moon:
ehhm, ehhm, this one is REALLY BAAAAAD!!
It is so boring that you have to press the fast forward button on your remote to survive through the whole movie.
You are forced to witness very very very(!) slow automaton (aka robots) to "slide" over the screen in almost slow motion.
Then there is this epilepsy generating blinking sequence during the first 7 minutes which makes your eyes bleed.
The story is OK and somehow apocalyptic and interesting. But there is so little inside this movie that it makes it really boring.
In the last 15 minutes you get to see some gory killings with drills, swords and hatchets but the rest is completely forgettable.
They have tried to make it look old and they really succeeded in that, but having to watch someone tie his shoelaces for over 1 minute is boring and ridiculous. Why?? It seems like they have tried to stretch the movie to over one hour.

Avoid this if possible. I would almost dare to say that this was the worst movie I have ever seen. Maybe even worse than "Manos" and that should be enough said. :suicide:

This is the kind of review I really appreciate, argumented with reasons and facts, not just some "it sucks" or "it rocks" comment. I do not agree with the "avoid if possible" part, because there is always someone who likes the exact opposite of you, but the rest of the post is really useful. It contains everything you need to choose whether to see it or not. 8)

Things you can learn from this movie:

1.) You can survive watching blinking spots on the screen for more than 5 minutes without getting an epileptic seizure.
2.) In the future robots look like trash bins with legs and arms.
3.) In the future robots can read your mind. You just have to say "Help me!" and they know what to do.
4.) Future robots will make strange beeping noises while moving.
5.) You can actually shoot a 1.5 minute long scene in which someone is tying her shoelace, without it being cut out by the editor of the movie.
6.) You can actually hire a great actor (Angus Scrimm) to play in total crap movie.
7.) If you stab a pipe through the heart of a woman, she can live and talk without any problems and tell you about her "doom's day weapon".

This movie is so bad, that it is almost worse than Manos.
