I'm not sure about this, can anyone who has seen it venture an opinion?

I'm also on the fence about this... Some very negative reviews and everything, but any decent gore...humor..atmosphere at least?

I mean, those screenshots are actually encouraging... doesn't look like today's dtv and low budget movies, always trying to look like A+ productions or something they're not, oversaturated image, crappy filters to the image and so on... bad wannabe acting and... well, this looks like it knows it's place, too bad if it isn't ole times fun, sure looks like.

Opinion? Why certainly.

It's a right old sack of tits.

For some reason I was hoping this would be good, but no, it's just the same fucking film I've seen ten times this year already. Redneck town, pseudo-inbred family, creepy locals, sinister sheriff blah, blah, blah. Admittedly, that can sometimes make for an entertaining flick, has done in quite a few films, but when every single character in a film is so damn 'off the peg', so devoid of any originality, it's just tedious.

The acting is truly pathetic. The cast consits of two brothers, one of whom made me want to drive spoons into my eyes within 30 seconds of him first talking. I soon realised that driving spoons into his eyes would be far more pleasurable. I waited and hoped, but sadly he remained un-spooned for the entire, painfully long (or so it seemed) running time. This guys generic, whiney, 'wise cracking' slacker portrayal was utterly flat. Dislikeable without any redeeming features. His older brother was slightly more tolerable, but equally bland. They are joined by two friends: a token frat boy and his forgettable bimbette girlfriend. After about twenty minutes, they are joined by another girl, a camper they meet whose friend you see killed, graphically but boringly, at the start of the film.

The killer (the daft looking fat nonce in the screen shot above) is just completely meh. He's a lumbering retard whose defining trait is that... He kills people with assorted tools and weapons, mostly whilst listening to an old song (which itself just grates after hearing it once). These killings also get filmed for some kind of cottage-industry snuff collection. He likes to wear a wielding mask whilst killing.

Without wanting to be overly unfair about the guy who plays the killer... Well, he's not the speediest looking chap in the film and it suprises me that he manages to kill so many young, healthy people without meeting much in the way of resistance. Tip for anyone planning on going camping within the weak reality these films inhabit: Run, occasionally. It's what your body will be telling you to do and, as a race, it's served us well for many years when confronted by, y'know, danger and stuff.

The main 'selling point', for want of a better expression, is that this film has some very graphic gore.

So. Fucking. What?

Gore, when done for the sake of gore needs to be really good to be entertaining. One scene, the one that people seem to be talking about, is that a guy gets one of his nuts popped by fatso, with a pair of pliers.

How shocking!

Or just boring, post-Eli Roth, 'Look how extreme we are!' crap. A couple of weeks ago, I watched the French film 'Inside'. That was as gory as this but benefitted from being well acted, well paced and nasty in a way that is genuinely shocking rather than just cynical and boring. Which this film is.

I've said it before how I'm so bored of tepid piss like this, and I apologise for going off on one, but I'm increasingly feeling like the horror genre is destroying itself by letting so many films like this come to the fore and becoming, sadly, increasingly representative of the genre.

Fuck this film.

Erm. Sorry I went on a bit there.
Cheers.

hey thanks for that, I guess I'll click it hehe

Well, let's not get too much further into any of the issues I'll point, let's just agree it's a matter of taste in the end right? sure crap is crap and one should be able to smell it... BUT I actually liked some of the elements you pointed, and I've learned to watch horror movies sometimes looking for that "bad" aspect...why? because lots of the 70's or 80's stuff I love today I'm sure had been made in 2006 I'd scream AWFUL over them... hardly a horror movie is born with a cult status already, so I try and find what they're made off, you can sense when there's honesty in a movie... I'm also tired of torture porn so if this is the case it got already -2 points in my book... but I can't be a hypocrite and be in love with troma flicks, 80's cheesy monster movies and slashers and whenever a movie with similar "qualities" and soul I'm all picky about how cheesy crap, non-realistic, non-scary and etc it is...

I can totally watch this one and say it's a 2/10 no doubt... but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, because at least like I said before it doesn't look like it's trying to be texas chainsaw remake, all brownish looking shit... and I'm fed up with DV shot movies edited in a room by some dude with mad skillz on after effect or something, doind magic with cgi...

I must say though I totally agree with some of your points... about the gore for the sake of gore and everything, I just think we always gotta use a little perspective on things...not to mention the difference of taste obviously... anyway, Sometimes I'll bash a movie based on how bad is the acting IF the acting was trying to make some statement, or how lame the story is IF the movie was supposed to have a strong serious script or how unbeliavebly dumb some characters were IF the movie was all about realism... if this is the case, then I'm right there with you, I'm always revolted at movies trying too hard and totally failing on its basic promises.

Absolutely agree, I love a film that's just entertainment for its own sake, thing is though, they have to entertain. I wasn't expecting a classic or 'quality' film, but this really is that atrocious.

Also, I think you might be dissapointed by how many 'brown looking' (as vague as that is, I know exactly what you mean) shots there are. And, yup, it is pretty much torture porn.

I could eat a video camera and shit out a better film.

Sure man, now I'm pretty certain my impressions were deceiving... I'll give it a shot anyways, I just watched Rave from the Grave yesterday and I believe that comes with having freebies, you gotta lose 80 minutes with some of those movies from time to time, the kind that once you watch you can never "unwatch" it :D I'll make this one my punishment of the day.

That would at least make for a great movie scene, I'll write it down. :beerchug:

Well, I don´t have nothing against gore for gore sake. If a film starts with a decapitation and goes on and on showing me death with no plot at all, I´ll problably like it. So, I´m giving this a try. Thanks :beerchug:
