John and Laura Baxter are living in Venice when they meet a pair of elderly sisters, one of whom claims to be psychic. She insists that she sees the spirit of the Baxters' daughter, who recently drowned. Laura is intrigued, but John resists the idea. He, however, seems to have his own psychic flashes, seeing their daughter walk the streets in her red cloak, as well as Laura and the sisters on a funeral gondola.

I've read so many aplaudations for this film but didn't get it at all myself. I missed alot of the story because the dialogue was kinda mubled and difficult to make out at times though.... what did you guys think made it good?

The dreamy atmosphere and the building suspense. There are signs everywhere that a tragedy will strike, but you never know where it will hit from. Its like Ringu in a lot of ways.

One of the first movies where I understood color symbolism.

@John
It's all about a very deady supernatural dwarf, LOL,
can't really remember where I saw such one in Ringu.

@General (in general terms)
The main point to create scary atmospheare is to
shoot as much as possible on real locations. Not in
some friggn studio with faked lights, interior, and
with dead actors which can?t act serious, etc. This here
is not some bullshit production about Tobie?s plastic
crocodile, this here is a serious movie from Roeg.
Btw, since we are already on that topic, this movie
(DLN) is also just about some 200-300 zillion
lightyears above stuff like ?The Exorcist?! In terms
like atmosphere, thrill, suspense, camerawork,
editing, post production, sound, script, dialog, the
entire broadband of movie making...

Sofor, 'Don't Look Now' can?t be, not even remotely,
compared to Ringu or simmilar experimental flicks,
hammered together by some amateurs, on just one
weekend Of course, Romeros TNOTLD (1968) is a
exception (talk about ?one weekend movie production?
in a exagerrating way) thatfor, and because it is real art,
they exhibit it at MOMA since decades. ]8~)

@Domi
Already downloaded the other DLN Version, but...
...so god will, LOL, I would like to have your too.
Thx alot for this real classic horror movie re-release.
This one should clearly be integrated into the main
Database as well, but that is another story and actually
absolutely irrelevant here.

Guys, you don?t know how much fun it makes to
read this board. Well, everyone for himself, and god
for us all together.

P.S. Sorry for bad language and typos, just a quick
message, without to think much about...

John, you can compare "Don't Look Now" much
with Altman's "Images". So, you decide if that
is something for you, or rather not.

Stromjunkie, please,. when you give spoilers give a warning. Even if your comment was wrong, it gives a clue to one of the most shockign moments and I'm sure that there are people here who haven't seen the movie.

Chadman, I do not think I was the one which gave away to much info...not even remotely.

Spoilers

Maybe you're right. For me, though, any reference to the dwarf, who is not supernatural in any way, is a spoiler. I found that final scene shocking and surprising the first time I saw it. Again, maybe its just me, but the phrase "It's all about a very deady...dwarf" would have given away a lot and spoiled the movie.

End Spoilers.

BTW the other one is my rip, well, with a raped filename, could you change it to Don't.look.now.DVDRip.DivX5.avi please?

yeah, great movie, shocking, i never saw it coming, at least like this and the first few minutes of cross-cutting a pure cinematic magic, still a great movie.

Aha, so you was the one which made that ShareReactor version of DLN. Like said above, I downloaded that file some months ago..tested..find out to be a good rip and thatfor stored immediately on a DVD-r. Thank you, Emo.

Btw, don't spoil this movie more then it was done already. You wrote: "shocking ending". Now everyone and their grandma know exactly what's going on inside this masterpiece of filmart...that counts especially for the end scene which is ca. 108 minuts and 43 seconds long ]8~)

I did not compared Domis ver. against yours yet, from the specs and all. But I hope Domi was able to capture even more movie details since he used Xvid. Again, thank you both for delivering this masterpiece.

yeah, Xvid should be the better one, i?m too lazy now to look for the specs of my rip, bottom line is: mine is better spread, the new one is probably better looking.
