"A Gun For Jennifer", a film by Deborah Twiss and Todd Morris, was a huge success at Fant-Asia '97, the action and fantasy festival held in Montreal. The film was sold-out an hour before the screening and Montrealers gave it a standing ovation. The feminist crime drama tells the story of a gang of vigilantes scanning the streets of NY to castrate rapists and other sex criminals. The film is so extremely violent and gory that no distributor has yet had the courage to pick it up.
Grainy, gritty and clearly free of any studio interference, the spirited feature has Twiss playing Jennifer, an innocent young lass from the Midwest who ends up walking the streets of Manhattan, escaping a mysterious past. Before anyone can say "Ms. 45," the lone woman is being stalked by evil rapists, out to steal her cash and have their way with her. But help isn't far off: a van screeches into the alleyway, and a gang of armed women get out, rescue Jennifer, and then castrate and murder the would-be rapists.
Jennifer is soon drawn into a guerrilla subculture. It seems the gang of rogue women who rescued her are radical feminists who run a go-go club by day and stalk misogynists after hours. It's a ludicrous scenario, but within the logic of the wonderful world of B-movie exploitation film culture, it works beautifully. Twiss evokes a good deal of audience empathy as Jennifer, fascinated by the power of the ruthless female vigilantes but horrified when she finds she can't leave the entourage. Theirs is a brazen rebellion, an emasculation of those men who can't leave women alone.
Take the horrors of rape and revenge from Ms45 and multiplies it a thousand times over,extremely rare movie that has yet to see the light of day on VHS,DVD or the Cinema Screens... masterpiece
