Plot Summary: Dr. Vollin (Lugosi), a brilliant but excentric Neurosurgeon with a penchant for Edgar Allan Poe inspired torture is coaxed out of retirement by a wealthy judge to save his daughter, a dancer crippled and brain damaged in an auto wreck. During her recovery Vollin falls in love with her and decides that she will marry him and not her fiance. Devising a hideous scheme of torture and murder, Vollin enlists a reluctant assistant by horribly disfiguring an on the run murderer (Karloff) who had come to him to have his appearance altered.
