Alone In The Dark (2005)

Image

IMDB | NFO

Sinopse:
Code:
Edward Carnby (Slater), detective of the paranormal, unexplained and supernatural, investigates a mystery (the recent death of a friend) with clues leading to "Shadow Island" that brings him face to face with bizarre horrors that prove both psychologically disturbing and lethal, as he discovers that evil demons worshiped by an ancient culture called the Abskani are planning on coming back to life in the 21st century to once again take over the world... and only he and a young genius anthropologist with an incredible memory (and his ex-girlfriend), Aline Cedrac (Reid), stand in their way, at a gateway to hell. Standing in Carnby's way, however, is the impact that a brief encounter with an evil spirit called the Queen had upon his mind, as he slowly finds himself overpowered by the forces of darkness as they eat away at his very sanity...

don't want to contradict El Mariachi, but the first few minutes of this movie are f*cking terrible... its so damn painful. The action is the lamest attempt i have ever seen. I only made it up to the bit where some crate arrives at the museum and that bimbo comes out and is supposed to be the curator!

This movie sucks more than any black hole in the known universe. If you're thinking about downloading it, just don't. Believe me, you'll be better downloading any porn you may accidentaly find on any p2p net than this completely worthless... something -- and take under consideration that this is coming from a guy, who's a fan (OK, maybe a "fan" is too much) of Jan-Gel and Frog-g-g.

And as for the moronic slut, who "played" the "museum curator", here's a bit of an interview I once found she gave for a comic book magazine Wizard:

Wizard wrote:
Wizard: What can you tell us about your character, Aline Cedrac?

Reid: She's an anthropologist who helps figure out what's going on with what it is that's killing all these people, a bug that's implanted. She was also in love with Christian Slater's character for a while. Their storylines cross over with each other, not only in a romantic way but also in a professsional way.

W: A bug? Is that the horror you face in the movie?

R: It's a worm. It's a monster worm. I can't explain.

W: How close is that to the video game?

R: I'm not an expert on the video game, so I couldn't help you there. The filmmakers got the idea from the video game but they changed it around a bit,

W: The game takes place in a Louisiana mansion. Does the movie follow that?

R: You know, you never really find out where the movie takes place. It takes place more in a city, in a museum.

W: What was it like to work with the director Uwe Boll and co-star Christian Slater?

R: Oh Uwe, he's grat. He understands horror and making something scary and tough, and he's excellent at that. And I love Christian, he was awesome. Great actor. It was a pleasure in every way to work with him.

Read that and.... well, I don't even know whether to laugh or cry (actually if you ever watch the movie, you'd probably really laugh your ass off reading what she says). Just don't download it if you don't have any masochistic tendencies.

And on a final note:
1. The only "Alone in the Dark" you get in this movie is when you go to see it on the big screen. Guess, why.
2. Whatever the IMDb or the DVD cover might be trying to force on you, this isn't a horror movie. It's just a bad, stupid, lousy, boring action movie that rips off several others.

PS. "Oh Uwe, he's great" - I don't think there ever was a more... grotesque statement than this about anything.

Come on, it isn't that bad. Ok, it is bad, but not in a very annoying way. I don't even think it is boring. It is just that there in nothing in it what makes you think for even a second about the film when you finished watching it. See it and forget it.

But it did annoy me :? (I think I could list half a dozen annoying things in it beginning with Slater's character) And it was boring and - exactly as you said - nothing about nothing.... No storyline, no plot, no point, no consistency, no acting, no anything actually  A bunch of lame ass scenes put together :?

Maybe, but your type of spite for this film I reserve for worse ones like Evils City.

Fair enough  But truth to tell, though I haven't seen Evil's City yet (and I'm not really sure if I want too), I think you're too easy on "Alone" - not only did it had a much bigger budget and names than Evil's City, but it also had a very good, already made story, which Mr Bollocks just completely threw aside to make his dumb Starship Troopers wanna-be movie :?

I have to say i agree with union more than you on this one wargand, it really sucks, boring and unentertaining, even on some kind of moronicly simple level.

I'm suprised anyone has enough time to waste to make it all the way through.

After Union's answer I think I understand where your problem lies. It is a failed main stream. Main stream is for may here an insult on its own, but a one that failed though it had potential, i.e. money and big names.....

I don't think it would receive such a harsh review if it was from some small no-name studio.

I dunno, I'd have still turned it off at exactly the same point, so the review from me would be unchanged, and that's just "don't bother with this crap"

What you're saying is possible, Wargand, but all I actually care is that at the end it's a horribly bad movie without any redeeming qualities whatsoever (I'd go as far as to say it's worse than The Blob or The Robot Monster). It's not even remotely funny and it's horribly pretentious. But I think what pisses me off the most is that it could have been something completely else, if only Uwe didn't "understand horror and making something scary".

No matter what it was supposed to be, in the end it's just a very, very bad movie with a lot of money and a good story just wasted. :(

I erased it ofcourse.
But still, of most junk posted here, this hold some nice production value.

yea I was pissed when I wasted a DVD-R copying this when I rented it....you see I used to rent DVDs in bulk (like 10 at a time (before this copyright DVD crap), copy them, return them the next day so I would get a dollar credit for each DVD, then watch at my pace) but when I got to this one I was pissed...it is complete shit.

o my fuc*ing god - Uwe Boll - this guy is one of the crapiest directors of all time  but i've heard that his "Amoklauf" is actually a good flick, but soooo hard to find.
