If there is a LQ DVD rip of this already then I can't improve on it, sorry for the false hope. I have ripped this 6 times - pure NTSC, IVTC and force film with 4 different deinterlacing options (no deinterlacing, field, field no blend and Toms) and they all have bad ghosting and some are interlaced. Thanks to Dxa for his assistance, his expertise in ripping NTSC is second to none The R1 VCI DVD is very poorly mastered and has ghosting on the disc which is exaggerated by the rip. This was one of the first DVD's I bought and only watched it once, I guess I wasn't used to the superior quality of DVD at the time as I thought it was OK, although anything would be better than the battered pre-cert I bought it to replace. |
I know this thread was last replied to back in 2005, but picking up where things left off...
I just did this same vci disc - the stream is ntsc but I ivtc'd it and killed most of the ghosting with a high telecide vthresh setting. Unfortunately this leads to a less than flawless job with the combing but despite some 'combed' frames the playback is now a smooth 23.976 fps with hardly any ghosting (during playback at least). A few other goodies on top and it resulted in a decent enough rip - again some really minor combing is evident in some frames here and there throughout. I'm sharing it on bt now - here's a few screens and a link if anyone's looking:
