In the warped tradition of A Clockwork Orange, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and Blue Velvet, this is a film--directed with electrifying audacity by Munich-born Michael Haneke--that addresses the controversy of screen violence by making the viewer as guilty as the Leopold and Loeb-like killers who terrorize a young family of three during their summer vacation. They arrive as friendly neighbors, seducing the family with phony congeniality, but soon Funny Games reveals its devious strategy, turning savage and appalling... and completely captivating for those who can endure the terror. There's actually less violence than you'd see in a typical American horror flick such as Scream, but Haneke's forceful staging effectively fulfills his agenda of viewer complicity; we vividly experience this doomed family's fate and feel helpless to save them. So helpless, in fact, that Haneke dares to offer a hint of respite by giving a victim the upper hand, only to "replay" the same scene with the darkest of outcomes. This version has hardcoded english subs

Its off a DVD but not a brilliant rip. Better quality than vhs though.

yeah is this a dvdrip or screener or vhs rip, is it in english or german??

Plenty of sources for this one.. Couldnt preview it yet with VLC but the filenames indicate that it might be in german language with english subtitles.

What is the obsession German releasers have with stripping the ORIGINAL audio and replacing with german dubbing ?! No other country seems to do this and it pisses me off downloading things to find that it's in German with nothing in the filename to indicate this.

the filename should read : Funny.Games.(1988)Bungalow_RuinedByGermans.avi :twisted:

ehm...german IS the original language, it was shot in german since it?s an austrian movie, nothing was replaced here.

I can cope with japanese - To be honest I didn't even know Austria had a film industry I just automatically read it as Australia :oops:

You guys are lucky that you only misread it in a forum. At some olympics a few years back an australian won a medal and they played the austrian national anthem.... or was it the other way around? either way a big boo boo!

hey guys - i checked this one out totally uncut in austrian with no subs back in 99 and my only concern is that this one might be missing that odious and controversial scene where the kid tries to make a break for it in the living room and gets blasted in the back for his troubles - can anyone who has actually viewed this version tell me if that scene has been cut out cause the one ive seen floating around so far is the version on DC (bite my tongue) and that does not have the scene in it.
