Company of Wolves, The (1984)

Image
Synopsis
"The tangled forest is misty with mystery, the thatched cottages are cute and quaint, and the dashing rogues are devious charmers, but this revision of "Little Red Riding Hood" is not your usual fairy tale. In the troubled dreams of an adolescent girl in the hormonal rush of puberty, it becomes a veritable werewolf story with lush storybook imagery, gothic horror flourishes, and decidedly sexual implications. Director Neil Jordan, who collaborated with author Angela Carter in this 1985 adaptation of her story, applies a knowing intelligence to the bittersweet tale. The often startling transformation effects may appear primitive compared to modern movies, but the delight is in the dark imagination, dense textures, and fantastical wonders of this dream world. Angela Lansbury is the story-spinning granny and David Warner the understanding woodsman father, and watch for a devilish cameo by a sinister and seductive Terence Stamp."

Haven't heard much about this one,
but the cover seems interesting enough.
Will give it a go :)

I liked it, so did the girl I watched it with. More of a fantasy 'fairy-tale' film than horror though. The forest is beautifully made. Looks perfectly dreamy, but still not fake.

a must see for all lovers of dreamlike movie...
too bad that the dvd version is so poor : not enhanced for widescreen tv, no bonus... hoping for a real special edition of this one!

you sure ? no nude scene on the relatively new french dvd, nor on the 2 other rips of this i got...
i think this 1cd rip is from the swedish dvd (i asked the releaser on fh when he posted it)

aren't you talking about the female werewolf at the end ? she sure is beautiful !

Image

which reminds me that a few years ago, when no subs where availbale, i made english and french subs for this movie from scratch
one of the reasons of my obsession with this movie was the presence of that female werewolf, played by danielle dax, a famous 80s goth chick

here are a few photos of her i gathered on the net at that time

Image Image Image Image Image Image

is she hot or is she hot !?
btw, if someone can tell me where that last photo comes from (LP insert ?), i would be one happy man !

yep, i knew it was danielle dax, that's how i found the picture...
would be great if you could find where that photo is from !
just emailed a danielle dax fan page webmaster that has the photo on his site, he might know...
from the title of the picture, i guess it could be from "the dark adapted eye" or "pop eyes" album leaflet

got two different answers :
Quote:
I'm pretty sure it part of the CD booklet for the album Dark Adapted Eye.
I'm not where I can check right now but I will later and if it's not from
the Dark Adapted Eye CD, I'll e-mail you.

Quote:
from the liner notes of the "blast the human flower" ep

i edited out the text on it and bumped up the colors a bit.

so it's one or the other... gotta investigate a bit more
