Incubus (1965)

After "Incubus" generated acclaim in film festivals around the world and in successful theatrical showings in France, a lab mistakenly destroyed the negative and all prints. "Incubus" was lost for 30 years, and was never released on video. Then, after years of searching, one print was discovered in the permanent collection of the Cin?math?que Fran?aise in Paris. From that sole surviving print, "Incubus" has been digitally restored with remastered sound.

William Shatner stars as Marc, a soldier of pure heart who has just returned home injured from the war. He becomes the target of Kia (Allyson Ames), a beautiful female demon, who has become bored with taking the lives of corrupt men. Kia sets out to seduce Marc, but ends up falling in love, angering her sister demon and forcing her to summon the Incubus to wreak revenge.

Directed by Leslie Stevens (The Outer Limits) and shot by Academy Award? winning cinematographer Conrad L. Hall (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, American Beauty), Incubus is the only film shot entirely in the artificial language of Esperanto.

Just one year after this film came out, as its prints were being destroyed, William Shatner was cast in "Star Trek" (1966), cinematographer Conrad L. Hall got his first Academy Award nomination, actor Milos Milos (The Incubus) killed Mickey Rooney's ex-wife and then himself, and actress Ann Atmar committed suicide.
