Quote: | ---SYNOPSIS---
A woman, depressed over the recent death of her child and estranged from her scientist husband, finds herself stuck in her home with an incredibly sophisticated computer. Unfortunately this machine, called the Proteus IV and developed by her husband, has become virtually a sentient being with human desires -- including the desire to reproduce. And it has decided that the scientist's wife would make the perfect mother for its offspring...
---TIDBITS--- In 1961, Julie Christie starred in a British TV series, A for Andromeda (1961), in which her character was cloned by a supercomputer using DNA information gained by electrocuting a laboratory worker. In Demon Seed Julie Christie's character is impregnated by a computer.
Director Donald Cammell committed suicide after his movie Wild Side (1995) was recut against his wishes. Wild Side was Cammell's fourth feature film in 25 years.

I've read better by Koontz.
To be honest, he didn't have much luck with screen adaptations (Phantoms was the only one that wasn't a complete failure, The Face of Fear was VERY good imo, but the ending was spoiled completely, the rest is just crap).
I'm going to check this one just to see what came out of it.

Unfortunately in film, you don't have freeze frame narration to describe the scene, nor any particularly strong narration devises in contrast to written media.
The film media requires that you completely, or in the most part abandon the wealth of the books description, copy the basic plot and context and rely on strong direction and cinematography to get some of the social and policital commentry back.
As a general indicater of this, I think its fair to say that historically, the more faithful you are to the book, the worse the movie gets.
Whereas when you pick out the important parts of the book and work on presentation and a particular theme, it will win out. I don't think i need to list any movies where they did this because, well everyone knows them.
Anyway i posted the dvdrip in the high quality section, best let this thread sink.
