In lower quality section because 1 part (1 reel's worth) of the film is badly sourced.

here's some caps from my satrip that I almost released.

Your satrip looks good, in case the DVDrip won't finish, I'll be glad to get it.

Satrip is in reserve :)

I've downloaded 53mb - Woohoo! Could use a few more people clicking on to create a bigger download swarm.

EDIT:

Verified!

You mean you've already finished it? In case you haven't, how do you take screenshots from the preview? When I try to do it with VLC, the video layer is not copied to memory, so when I paste it I only get a VLC with blank screen... :o I have this problem with preview only, and I think it's a VLC related problem.

How do you try to make the snapshots? Do you press "Alt+Print Screen"?

That unfortunately doesn't work. In VLC choose "Video->Snapshot" to create snapshots. The snapshots are saved in your Personal Images folder as .PNG files.

ARGH! That's it! I did use that function, but looked for images inside VLC folder, I didn't know where they were saved, so I thought it simply did not work. Thanks, now I know! :-)

I just copied the .part file to a temp directory and opened it with VirtualDub. There was enough info in the header for the incomplete avi file to open. Still far from completed. :(

Yup, it's enough to have the first chunk to allow you a preview of the movie.

However it's even better to have the last chunk as well, since VLC complains (and might crash if you jump to another location of the video stream) if that is missing. That is why there is an option in the eMule client to try to grab the first and last chunks of a file first.

Btw. you don't need to copy the .part file. Just open it.

I too prefer VirtualDub, since it lets you copy the captured screen into the clipboard instead of saving it in a predefined PNG format into a predefined folder.
Downside of VirtualDub is that it relies on the codecs installed on your system. If you don't have the specific codec for the file the playback will fail.

If I try to open the original, I get an error:

Seems like you are right. Nevertheless this doesn't happen when you open the file with VLC. So another plus point for the Video LAN player.

Conclusion: none of the two is perfect.

You needn't have the first chunk of the file to preview it either. There is a tool called AviPreview (with a GUI called edWatch) that enables you to do this:

After that though, I won't bother at all with movies on DVD even if they haven't been ripped. Perhaps people would be interested if I started a master list of interesting films on DVD that have no rip yet.

It is excellent for me, surely MUCH better (if not perfect) than the awful VHSrip I've made from an old crappy sprotected 2nd generation tape.

I would have moved this to the Higher quailty section if 8 minutes of the film wasn't like this:

Looks like one of the reels that the DVD was tranfered from, was damaged over time. The TV broadcast had the same problem.

Seems like sunlight damage, or someone put it on the heater...
