From fh, for those wanting to know if its a good watch or not and what to expect:

I'm still not happy with how the encode came out, but i mean it looks fine when you watch it. Its a nice documentry, its not that technical in so far that it tells you exactly what to do, but it addresses the evolution of editing and goes over techniques, so i imagine it would be very helpful to those interested in movies.

All the directors pretty much agree that its editing that makes the film, and its editing that makes an actor. There's a comment that if an actor wants a good performance they've got to make friends with the editor, they don't ever use "takes", but rather cut different takes to make a performance.

It also covers all the editing paradigm shifts, from the first ever closeups, to traditional hitchcock, to ommiting stuff like people walking across roads and going up stairs since the audience can figure this out, suggestive editing like in Bonnie and Clyde, then the 'fast' editing like in gladiator. There's also the backlash about modern editing techniques, and most of the best director's say they hate it, but its referred to as MTV editing by them, which is pretty much how people review these same movies when they are digging into them on these very forums.

There's george lucas in there talking about digital editing and there's the director of XXX in there talking and justifying mtv editing.

Good watch i thought.
