IMDB - 3.8

Obscure italian (but never distributed here in IT) monster movie, excellently shot, abisimally dubbed. The story makes no sense and it's at the same time quite grim and quite campy (the fish monster rapes a girl etc.)...

As Geez said I guess this ultimately comes from Zaerc. I'm almost sure I've found the link in the (now sleeping) Perle sul mulo site :wacky:

I had distant memories of seeing poster art for this one in some of those horror magazines that flooded Italy's newstands in the early '90s too ... my guess would be an issue of the short lived Playpress italian version of gorezone :o

It's strange, this director seems totally ignored here in Italy... he kept making horrors as far as 2002 but I can't find any info about him in our language.

He might have moved to US, maybe his movies cannot be considered italian movies. About Gorezone, I'm not sure about it, but I'm sure Fangoria was an AWFUL translation of the US edition, with plenty of errors and missing pages, and there was no original italian stuff inside... The whole venture was started by people unable to manage that kind of publications, and they also killed Nosferatu, which was the only original italian horror magazine at the time. I even went to the one and only "Fangoria Film Festival" in Bologna in 1991 (I think), and they were so amateurs they were not sure a second edition of the fastival would have taken place. As a matter of fact, less than a year later they closed...

 Indeed they were terrible - but I was a young collector and I would buy anything. Stupid me. I have those magazines somewhere, sooner or later I'm going to check...

And yes, Nosferatu was really good. I seem to remember I read about Nikos Nikolaidis there for the first time, so everyone sees it was not (only) your regular mainstream horror mag... all stuff from Acme editions was done by talented people. Btw Loris Curci worked there... well, he was quite busy at the time... but anyway, I can't go in the details, but if I'm here today, doing what I'm doing, the fault lies mainly on him

[is selling a bootleg copy of Pink Flamingos to a 12 year old boy still illegal in Italy?]

Hehe, I traded a few tapes with Loris at the time, the world's so small ;-)
I still have all those mags, including Dark Star, which was a fanzine, but so professional it could be compared to regular magazines. I'm a Fangoria subscriber since 1987, but I've bought some issues since 1985. The first copy I've got had Day of the Dead on the cover.
