there's a known bug in IE, based on its terrible rendering engine that can't handle any non-standard text, which is the root cause of the slow down. This will only ne whenever it is directly rendering it. ie. only when scrolling over the unicode, not when it is out of view.
That's actually a bug in IE I'm afraid, its such a poorly coded engine that it doesn't render it correctly and its pretty easy to exploit. I dunno if they fixed it in IE7+ (which is listed as a critical security update
). Practically, mozilla is
the critical update for IE that will fix this, and the other several hundred bugs it has with simple things
Its all down to piss poor browser rendering engines usually, i've never used maxthon or know of its heritage (i doubt its netscape based on the description of the problem). I'll assume its an IE rehash based on the fact it can't render some simple extended character sets. I can't speak of its options, i would suggest writing a replacement CSS that overrides the fonts for pre tags as ASCII or something else (that will prevent crashes due to memory leaks on both here and fileheaven if your a user). However, since its IE based (assuming again), you probably won't get anything like that functionality provided.
The fact that i can cripple your browser by posting nothing more than characters from an extended character set is quite a serious bug with your browser. I can only assume based upon that, that Maxthon is an ie clone anyway.
For the sake of fixing the error and as a recommendation, download either Mozilla Firefox or Opera, both's rendering engines are extremely fast and efficient and the memory leak bug isn't there in either. They also allow features such as overriding styles which would fix the problem if only it were provided for you as standard.
short: I'm afraid its a known security bug for IE, and Maxthon (I would wager a pretty sum) is merely a tarted up IE. The fix is either Opera or Mozilla Firefox
It maybe fixed in IE7. If it isn't, i'm afraid microsoft simply won't fix the bug since they don't respond to security issues or user input (hence why IE is so shitty in the first place
)
