In Xvid encoder settings click more next to the profile@level dropdown. Set quantization dropdown to mpeg-custom, click 'edit matrix', then click 'load matrix' and select Jawor2cd on your HDD. :)

yes, its independant from any program, its part of the MPEG4 standard so can be found in codec setting.

Also because its a clearly defined part of the mpeg4 standard, anything that can't play it back is not standard compliant. So the reasons for not using the features at your disposal are becoming increasingly flimsy in my view.

Traditionally its because piss poor standalones glitch when they have even a bare minimum of processing to do

So using CQMs will screw up some standalones? Oops :wacky:

only shit standalones with less processing power than the original gameboy. MediaTek chipsets and other things.

Its purely the manufacturers fault cheaping out on a poor chipset, and there have always been alternatives that will play custom matrices without incident.

yes, when its needed and produces the results i want, yes i would. default for 1cd looks poor for edge noise imo. I would choose jawors 1cd for anything around that filesize, and tend to use jawors2cd for anything around the 2cd / 1/3rd AFR. There's some other great matrices for high bitrate rips, and mpeg looks fine for overkill if you want to keep it.

I like the way jawors 2cd rips look, and tend to favour it. Check the nfos, whether you use CQM should always be in them imo, and preferably the one your using

I found Jawor 1cd gives me far less compressibility than V3ULR :?

Jawor 2cd on the other hand beats everything else :beerchug:

That might be true for the encodes you were doing, there's no dick of all trades matrix. I'm sure if you bug usb (unskinnyboy) he'll point to some good advise on choosing the right matrix (maybe with examples). I know he knows that i know that he know's what he's doing anyway.

Consider this as a bug usb reply :P

Tried several times using another matrix but most of the time they looked crappy. And the default mpeg seems to be better.
Would be nice having some examples for comparing reason.

For 1/6 I simply run a comptest without any filtering, and see what matrix gives me the best results.

For example, I just stumbled across this bugger:

Bulletproof's Heavy Compression Matrix.xcm

And seems to have really boosted compressibilty on a poop encode Im doing. Gain was ~10% over Jawor1cd and V3ULR :o

LOL now to see if there will be any actual quality difference :matrix:

Playing with matrices can get you a few surprises, sometimes pleasant. They give out differences in what we see as detial too, as in being sharper or softer. I have made a few for some encodes and am currently making some clips to test out my standalone, to see if what I made plays and looks good upscaled onto my display. You can use the DRF Analyzer to tell you some compression info.

I use Jawor or EQM. In order of details/compressibility: EQM V3ULR, Jawor's 1CD Matrix, EQM V3LR, Jawor's 2CD Matrix, EQM V3HR.

I don't like how EQM V3ULR looks on my LCD monitor now, and it seems there is something about it: http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=8 ... tcount=301

This is a nice thread about CQMs and compressibility: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93539

Lux, don't forget the screenies with Bulletproof's Heavy Compression Matrix! Thx.

 Damn totally forgot. But the rip turned out shit so it's not worth mention. Unless I did something wrong off course.

Oh what's this with V3ULR on LCD? Damn, guess I'll re-do some shite then :o
