while checking some files i got from a friend to see which were dvd rips and which pdtv, the
files in question were Ideal Season 1, and were assorted dvdrips and tv ones, so i figured that
if i hashed them using link-creator (comes with emule) that i could use the stats page to give
the filenames for them, while doing this DIFFERENT files hashed as the same

when hashing episode 5 it produced a hash that matched episode 3, and then when checking
back episode 3 produced a hash that matched episode 4 (even though episode 4 then produced
its own different hash that also matched episode 4)

this appears to have no relationship to which are dvdrip & which are tv rips and all files have
been watched and they ARE NOT THE SAME, all episodes are correct and as i remember them from BBC3.

I thought the emule hashing system couldnt produce the same hash for two different files, anyone got a
clue to what might be going on here.

Maybe whoever it was brought them to mule had them all named wrong to begin with. They may have taken from a diffrent P2P & forgot to check before adding to shared. :wacky:

Assuming that they are not the same files or renamed, and there's not a bug in your app, hypothetically MD4 is an unsecure hashing mechanism and its possible to get collisions however unlikely.

However, BadBugs sounds to be bang on the money. It will be a naming error.
