To type italic in .srt you put before the text in that line & at the end. unfortunately I've not figured how to do that via subresync :(

maybe add it before & after each character?

Well, I just tried it now, and it works in Media Player Classic. On my standalone DVD player the subs work, but the italic parts are shown as non-italic. So if you want to make .srt files just for your standalone, don't go through all the trouble trying to make the lines italic.

subresync remembers the characters as you type them so as long as you got a clear sub/idx you should have it done in a few minutes. Occasionally you get a crappy one that you have to type the same charcters a few times or a character that it doesnt recognise correctly that you just skip through but thats reasonably rare :)

Well, I got a crappy sub/idx now: the subs for Dragon Wars are very frustrating. Subresync wants me to type in parts of words instead of separate letters, so after having typed for 20 minutes, I only got to the 4th minute of the movie. As DW is a bad film, I skipped the work.

812 lines of utter crap, of which you only need the 121 lines of forced subs.
What I did was pressed the enter & any key a thousand times, as fast as possible to get the timings & then handwrote those 121 lines... still a ballache but shitloads faster
Subtitles are now up at Kloofys in instand subs section as D-War
