        It's been an enjoyable ride, but regrettably STR is no more. 
              
       Don't expect any showbiz-style revelations of artistic differences  
       or massive ego clashes, it's simply got to a point where members
       can't devote the time or energy they once could. In recent months
       the twitching corpse has been kept active almost solely by the 
       efforts of DxaKrator, for which we're all truly grateful. You may
       see the last of the backlog trickle through over the coming months,
       but once they're gone, we're gone too.

       So we'd like to bow out and say our collective thankyous to all the
       other rippers and groups making ed2k the single best place for
       sharing, without bringing the petty back-biting and one-upmanship
       that seems to make such a mess of "The Scene". Of course, there'd
       be no point releasing movies without the downloaders, so thanks to
       you all; for downloading, for sharing, for keeping the files alive.
       
       Finally, thanks to Spud, who has not only provided resources and
       advice, but also been the thorn in our side that made us strive for 
       improvement.
 
       Peace & Love to all our friends, past present and future.

What about the frame rate of 29.97? I am not an expert, but shouldn't it be 23.976 or 25.00?

Yeah...my method is capping via the computer....the frame rate is 29 so you use field or kernel to deinterlace it...If you try and IVTC it it would be jerky and missing frames.....Now I know V-Man caps a different way which is VHS to DVD and in that process I beleive he can cap at a progressive rate which would be the 23.97....I am not really sure which is the best method...I supppose it falls on how many frames it drops during the capturing process...the Pinnacle card I use doesn't drop any when I capture and gives me a bit more options then I suspect a vhs to dvd...but I could be wrong....I am just speaking from my own experience.At any rate with the scripts they got out now you can clean up even the dirtiest vhs encodes and make them watchable.I can't even count the amount of DVD's I have gotten and realised I could have done a better transfer or mastering on my own outdated computer :lol:

I'm capturing VHS tapes with a capture card and there is no problem with IVTC at all. It's always a clean 2:3 pulldown.

Guys, this link is in italian, but you'll realize by yourself there are TONS of different interlacing/telecine variations, and unfotrunately some of them are NOT fixable after a certain point (i.e. a blended deinterlace). Sometimes you are lucky and find a fixable source, but sometimes it's really impossible. I've found several NTSC DVDs in the past that could not be fixed in anyway because some moron blended the semi-frames together when blowing to 29.970. This page is about PAL, but it can be extended to NTSC too.

I've tried the 2:3 pulldown and it doesn't get the results for me like the straight deinterlacing quality-wise...in the end it just comes down to if the rip looks good in the end or not.....everyone has their own process :wink:

...Done plenty of dvd's in 29 as well...although they are usually the lower brand dvd's and almost always on SOV's
