You know me. More often than not I rant about films. How I delete them and how the directors deserve to be shot. Not this time. This one is really great. One of the best I have seen in a very long time.

Did you see the Swedish original? And if yes, what did you think of it?

Give me a some time. Before Sunday I doubt I can watch it. But I am curious, too. There are a few exceptions, but usually are US remakes worse than the originals.

So, I just watched the Swedish version. I must say, they are almost identical. Maybe the overall mood is in the Swedish version a bit better, but this might be because I am so used to American style films and any other cultural film background appears new and fresh to me. All in all I must admit the Americans did a really good job with the remake. Sure, they added a few special effects here and there, but it was carefully done and IMHO even enhances some of the scenes.

Rip off? Perhaps. Swedish version way better? I don't think so. Both versions are too similar as that one of them could be 'way better'. As I see it, the Americans took one foreign film and adapted it to their cultural context. I suppose this is a good starting point for a good old America bashing. Like Americans are too stupid to find Sweden on a map. This might be an exaggeration, but it is probably no exaggeration when one says that foreign films have a tendency to fail in America. Economically the remake makes sense. And as I said, it is not so bad, other American remakes were much worse.

Really? The only real reason why I work, is to make money. So I am gay? For the ones who can make money with the newer version, but cannot with the original, it is all the reason they need. For me it was extremely interesting to compare both versions.

I must say, it is a real classic rip-off when you put "Best American horror film in the last 20 years" on the cover. It implies way more than it actually is. It also makes Stephen King look stupid. Or maybe he is. I'm glad that this remake wasn't total crap. I just hope one day remakes are not needed anymore. It points out the cultural closed mindedness in some parts of the world

I must say I am so glad I saw the American version first. Because of that I was mildly shocked when I saw the Swedish version. See, when I started to watch the Swedish version I constantly tried to guess, what happens next... and very often failed. We all have seen films about bullying in American schools. We heard about suicides in Japanese schools because of that. So no surprise there. But in Sweden? Ok, I did not expect a perfect school world there. Mobbing seems to be a world wide problem. But I never expected American situations there. In the American version the brother of the main bully threatens to poke out an eye of the boy when he cannot stay for three minutes under water. So I was wondering, what will happen in the same scene in the Swedish version? It was exactly the same... Since the Swedish version is older than the American version it cannot be that it just copied American school problems. These seem to be original Swedish problems. Ok, maybe a bit exaggerated for this film, but if something like that is too far from the truth it won't work. The 'suspension of disbelieve' in this film is the existence of vampires, not school bullying. Everything else but the vampire should be as close to the truth as possible.

yeah... No, you, wargand, work not for money, you work cause you need to live. And they need to make remakes to live? I dont think so... if so, tey could Not Create a remake and live for that money, they gonna spend on it. So, the first reason we work - is to survive, second - to have more money, spend them on some stuff etc. And them - first they need more money. I could say different. Maybe something like Slayer a little bit. Theres no culture, no cultural point in such "remaking". So now every country has to make a remake of this? That we could see, how theres in schools in Denmark, in France, in Madagascar? I just don't see a good basis for such things to do.

with a tag like "best american horror..." and then stephen king name.. you want to piss off people you have done a pretty good job i would say. director of cloverfield..... like the cloverfield movie was a good, hahaha, one of the worst movies ever. if the movie have been like 20 or more years old a remake could be passable but this remake is of a movie that was released in 2008. the pissing off factor is so big here, that you cant hide it. this cloverfield crap maker is doing this only to cash-in, and are totally handicaped when it comes to writting anything good himself. one thing is for sure the dumbed down hollywood american movie goers, should go watch more europeans movies, it dont hurt them.
