Slaughter Hotel - aka La bestia uccide a sangue freddo. A giallo by Fernando Di Leo, whose movie The Italian Connection is his most famous work, but this giallo is a very nice effort by him. The story revolves around a clinic which is helping women to recover from their mental disorders, varying from suicidal tendencies to nymphomaniacal behaviour. Doctor Osterman, whose assistant Dr Clay (Klaus Kinski) is very close to several of the patients, runs this clinic and has a name to uphold. Prominent patients in the film are Margaret Lee (the suicidal one) and Rosalba Neri (the nymphomaniac, yay!) and they adorn the screen in every other scene. When one patient gets murdered, there is panic in the clinic, and soon other patients follow: who is this mysterious killer who keeps using medieval weaponry from one of the rooms of the clinic? Plot is pretty well done and I didn't guess the killer right, I think it's more because of me not watching so many giallos anymore lately than the fact it was very well hidden, but still. Acting is OK, atmosphere is very nice. Recommended for both giallo and Italofans.

Annabelle Comes Home - third and to my knowledge last installment in the Annabelle series. Ed and Lorraine Warren take in Annabelle and put her in their collection of possessed and demonic objects, in their basement. When they are out, a friend of their daughter's babysitter gets curious and enters the basement without anyone knowing about it. This way she unleashes several horrors which were stored safely in the weekly blessed basement room. While at first you want to shout at the character opening the basement, you will later understand her a bit more and get some emotional attachment, which is kind of the trademark of the James Wan productions. The ghosts are cool, although the devil seemed a bit over the top. The ferryman and the bride were really nice, though. Effects are OK, the werewolf looked fake but overall it was good enough. Acting was good, the actress playing the daughter did a great job. I had some goosebumps but overall wasn't really scared. Still a nice film though, recommended.

Ghost Poker - aka The Haunted Casino aka Dead Man's Hand. Charles Band film about an old casino which gets inherited by Matthew Dragna. He and his friends go visit to see if they can make something out of it, but they find out that there have been murders in the past and the ghosts of the deceased are now haunting the casino. As you might expect from Band there are some mediocre effects, some cool monsters, a pretty hot babe and a short runtime involved. The characters aain do some of the most stupid things you can imagine, but there are also some nice little twists in the storyline, like the nerdy girl discovering her sexuality in a non-standard way. Sid Haig and Michael Berryman appear which gives the film a little more flair, but overall there is very little which is really new and exciting, so this is a nice passtime if you want to switch off your brain or have it at least at half capacity.

Dimension In Fear - Ted V. Mikels has an interesting career as a director, he started out in the 60s with some sex-related flicks, then turning to horror via some engaged films, then returning to more actionpacked thriller stuff only to make another visit to the horror department later. This one is from the end of the action/thriller-era and it is arguably one of the most boring films I have seen. The story isn't even that bad, it's about twin brothers of which one is a mad serial killer escaping from a prison (the way he escapes shows extreme amateurism by the prison guards btw) and then being on the run for the police while his brother is trying to convince him to turn himself in. Meanwhile, a weathergirl  (supposedly a hot one but apart from her big boobs she didn't have anything going for me) is on her way to Las Vegas for a new job and she runs into the serial killer. The way this tory is told is taking the long route: scenes are almost always longer than necessary, there are some killings in the part before the girl and the killer meet which are nice, but the film could have done with some less talking in those scenes and more action. I started looking on my phone after a while because I was getting bored, only to look at the screen from time to time when someone started screaming. The ending was OK, you can see it coming from miles away though. If you want to see a bad film, try to pick a shorter one, if you want to have a laugh at how bad a movie is, skip this one entirely.

Vulcan - aka Anak ng bulkan. Bought this one because I saw it in the Red Letter Media VHS collection video. On the cover it shows some ancient statue, a dragon and a huge Pterodactyl which looks like it could eat you any moment. It also mentions this is "Family Entertainment" of which I thought it was a rather odd combination, then there is a PG rating added, because somne footage "may not be suitable for children". So far for the "family entertainment". The story is about a Philippino boy whose dad one day left the house and never returned, his mother remarried an American who beats him and is into small criminality to make ends meet. The biy visits the local tribe living on a volcano and when that one erupts, their house is destroyed and they have to flee. Afterwards he returns to the mountain and finds an egg: you guessed it, this contains the pteroidactyul. It grows superfast and it burns bad guys with a large flame like Godzilla spews. The pterodactyl comes in different colours, when it's close by it's green, when it takes off or lands it's silverish and when flying high up above in the sky it's grey. The biy rides iot's back like it's the nmost normal thing to do. Of course there are criminals who want to sell the animal (everyone keeps calling it a bird while it's a reptile of course) for big money and a young female reporter, of course from America, is gonna hep save the day. Kids movie, but enough stuff for bad moviefans to enjoy, loo for disappearing characters: when their role is played out, they simply vanish without explanation, in some cases even before their role is played out. The sfx with the flying and the firebursts are hilarious! Recommended for bad moviefans.

Panic - Italo film from 1982 about a scientist getting sort of mutated because he gets infected by some research subject. David Warbeck as Captain Kirk (?? yeah, really) is gonna bypass the local police to solve the case, while the scientist runs around randomly tearing people apart for no apparent reason. Janet Agren of Mangiati Vivi fame is there to support him. There is enough gore and the acting is quite funny to watch but overall this film just doesn't cut it for some reason. I love Italo and I love bad horrorflicks, but this, well, i don't know. It's bad yes, but not in a hilarious way. So I guess I'll just move on and go watch the next one, forgetting what this one was about.

Nadja - David Lynch presents, but not only presents, also produces and appears. Best promotion ever for your not so run-of-the-mill horrormovie, butxafter Lybch's role is over, the film can't really take off. It starts out promising, shot on black and white which gives a certain atmosphere, but the director goes a bit overboard with effects, especially some annoying blocky effect which sucks the enjoyment out of watching this. The story is the classic one (Van Helsingis hunting Dracula and his siblings) but in a modern setting (present day New York). It takes some nice twists, but apart from what I mentioned before, the film suffers a bit from overacting on the part of Helsing's character. The miniplot between brother and sister was pretty cool, the ending less so because it was quite predictable. Nice attempt at taking on the vampirestory and giving it a twist, unfortunately it only succeeds partially. For bad moviefans there is a classic microphone moment near the end.

Killdozer - a small crew of construction workers are busy creating something on a remote island off the coast of Africa. One evening some meteorite falls onto the island and the next day it gets hit by one of the machines, a bulldozer. This bulldozer now gets sort of possessed and starts moving on it's own, killing the men one by one. This film is as ridiculous as it sounds, no effects actually, I saw some lines in a shot which were a goof: those lines were to steer the dozer I guess. Acting is mediocre and the sotry is superficial, even though they try to give some depth to the characters, in the end it's about a bulldozer gone haywire and it doesn't make sense. Not too long so a nice timefiller but other bad films are more hilarious.

La Notte degli Squali - aka Night of the Sharks. Italian actionfilm, of which the title suggests that it's all about sharks while it isn't. The shark gets a role in the beginning and near the end, inbetween it's a story about criminals who get doublecrossed by a guy who gets away with a bag filled with diamonds. He seeks shelter in Cancun where his brother David leads the life of a nature guy, living in a cabin near the beach, hunting sharks and other fish. When he gets killed, David tries to not get involved, but since the gangsters are after a CD his brother had made of their voices saying stuff about their criminal activities, and this CD arrives in the mail, David becomes a part of it anyway. Now the gangsters are gonna visit him to get the diamonds and the CD back, meanwhile the infamous shark Cyclops keeps roaming the coastal waters... Since I had hoped for a monsterflick with sharks I had to flip the switch in my head in order to enjoy the somewhat cheesy action this film has to offer. It's an ok film, and compared to other Italo action stuff not even that bad. As long as you don't expect Oscar worthy acting, natural sounding dubbing and logical explanations you're fine. Bad moviefans should try and pick something different though.

Erotic Nights of the Living Dead - aka Sexy Nights of the Living Dead aka Le notti erotiche dei morti vivent. I watched the complete XXX version running for 112 minutes released by Desert Island Classics and the disc looks purple like it's a copied DVD. The imagequality is also pretty bad, especially on moving pictures you can see the heavy interlacing going on. This Joe D'Amato film features almost all of his traits: lots of porn, bad dubbing, George Eastman and low budget zombies. The story is about John who gets an island where he wants to develop a hotel and other touristic sites. George Eastman plays Larry the guy who sails the ship to bring John and the woman he had sex with to the island. John has hookers, the woman, Larry has also another woman (who gets penetrated by a champagnebottle at a certain point) and he watches John having sex. The amount of sex decreases towards the end, some of the scenes are a tad nasty as in that the character John has some sort of dimples on his ballsack which makes you wonder what kind of STD's he might have. The island John acquired is feared by the locals and when they arrive they meet an old man and a woman, the old man warns them about the island but John doesn't want to listen. Soon the zombies rise out of their graves... Near the end Laura Gemser and George Eastman have sex too but it's way more softcore than the stuff in the beginning. For just porhn this film is way too long, for just horror it's not scary at all so it hangs in between becoming one of the most ultimate B-movies ever. Bad moviefans should really see this, as it contains nice effects, nonsensical dialogues, ugly zombies and lots of sex accompanied by cheesy music.

The Forest - on a double feature with Panic, the image quality of this one was even worse: bad VHS copy which made some scenes so blurry that it was hard to make out what was happening. Story is simple: in a forest a cannibalistic man hunts down hikers and eats them. When two women are trying to prove they can handle themselves without the help of their men, they end up becoming a prey for the man. The men in the meantime are trying to catch up with the women because they are being overprotective, and they also get to deal with the man. Then there is something really dumb and unnecessary: the man had a wife and two children and they appear as ghosts (well, not really, they just talk with echo and sometimes disappear intok thin air, but apart form that they look absolutely normal) and they don't really add anything to the story except for a little explanation as to how the man became what he is right then. What makes this film enjoyable is the acting, because it is so bad that you can have a good laugh at it. The gore / sfx are crappy or invisible, the kills are unspectacular and the atmosphere is almost non-existent, but the acting, my god, really something to enjoy for bad moviefans!

Cryptz - horror blacksploitation film presented by Full Moon pictures. Three guys dream of becoming the new hit in music, but the main character of the film (calling himself Tymez Skawir -Times Square) needs to go and find a job because his mom is getting mad at him. So when he hangs out with his buddies Fuzzy Down and Likrish, they meet a hot girl who mentions a club they have never heard of: Cryptz. She also pinches the cheek of Tymez. They contact their friend Truck to find out more about it, but he tells them to not go there and to strap Tymez to a bed to prevent him from going. Of course they don't and they end up in the club where they meet waitresses and dancers dressed up in somewhat kinky outfits, because they are overly horny teenagers (or at least act like some) they lose all sense of logic and think with their dicks from then on. Truck now has to come and save them before it's too late... rather superficial horror with some real overacting (especially the Likrish character has given a new meaning to the term overacting) and some nice gore. I had fun, the babes are hot and there is worse stuff out there.

The Curse of the Living Corpse - black and white whodunnit from the 1960s in which a family loses it's pater familias. He wasn't very well liked and the children and the widow aren't too distressed by the loss. In the will, the man threatens them one more time: do as I order you, or die in the most horrible way you can imagine. From the get go they ignore his wishes, but soon strange things start to happen: an attack, one of the children meets his demise, what's going on? By fear of having buried the man alive they start to take precautions: the woman threatened with death by fire bricks up all fireplaces, the woman threatened by a watery death avoids being near any lakes, etc. The killings continue however, is the corpse really still alive? Nice thriller, great acting. I didn't guess it right the first time, I had some great Cluedo vibes while watching this ;) Not for bad moviefans and also not for fans of gore etc because there is none.

Adam and Eve versus the Cannibals - aka Adamo ed Eva, la Prima Storia d'Amore. Genesis according to Enzo Doria en Luigi Russo, if you are familiar with Italian cinema in the 70s and 80s, you might get an idea of how this goes. Adam molds Eve in sand, she comes alive and eats the apple because a python hisses to her she should do it, they get expelled and their first encounter outside is with a Pterodactyl, because why not? After that they encounter all sorts of tribesmen, of which it's not entirely clear which are the cannibals and which aren't: they fight and capture each other and sometimes they also capture Adma, Eve or bot. One of these tribal guys travels along with Adam and Eve for a while making Adam jealous because this guy actually does have balls and also fights a bear - I mean, a guy in a bearsuit. In search of the sea they keep travelling and meeting more weird creatures and fighting along the way like modern married couples. Lots of fun to be had for bad moviefans because the total weirdness of this film is perfect food for them.

Hi chup, long time no see! :beerchug:

Metamorphosis - a film  by George Eastman, the guy who is famous for his appearance in Italo films in the 70s and 80s! A young scientist is experimenting in genetics, in order to see if it's possible to stop the ageing of cells. His colleagues are skeptical but his assistant is loyal to the quest for eternal youth. One female colleague is fascinated by the research though, and while the scientist struggles to get recognition, she shows interest. To convince the others, the scientist inoculates himself with the serum he has developed and at first everything seems to be fine, but after a while it turns out he has episodes of which he has zero memories and some of these episodes are very violent. Feeling that things are starting to go wrong, he injects himself once more to return  to normalcy, but this just makes things worse and eventually the scientist starts morphing, he slowly turns into a monster threatening everyone in his surroundings
Spoiler:
(it actually turns out to be a dinosaur even, the weirdest thing of the entire movie).
The last part, where he is turning into a monster, is the most interesting part for horror fans, the lead up to it is quite long though: I was checking for how long the film had been running thinking it was almost at it's final scenes and then it wasn't even halfway, never a very good sign. Acting is OK on some parts, but for example the female scientist has a complete lack of emotion in her voice, she is saying her lines with the same monotone voice throughout the entire film. Laura Gemser is in this for a small part, but I must say I didn't recognise her immediately. Effects are nice, the monster looks cool. What makes this film a bad movie is the female scientist's acting and of course the
Spoiler:
dinosaur.
So bad moviefans will enjoy although they have to be patient.

Vampegeddon - take three girls you know, two of which have big boobs (one an abormally enlarged cup F silicon valley), dress them up as Goths and make a vampiremovie, This is what the director of this film must have thought and he almost gets away with it. Almost, because the third girl is the hero but not really because she is possessed by Longshank the longstanding vampirehunter and the vampires are dumb creatures with white facepaint, nothing like the cunning monsters you see in so many other vampirefilms. The Goth girls do ceremonies because they are bored and in one of them they get sort of encahanted by the main vampire who for some reason is called Giovanni. Liz, the only girl with some sort of a natural B-cup, then gets the spirit of Longshank in her, just in time to defeat the vampires and speak with an English accent in the meantime. There is enough gore to go around, the girls don't look too bad but the story is meh and the acting is also not the best. There are also four random vampire babes who appear out of the blue from time to time, adding nothing to the story whatsoever. Bad movie? Yes. Really enjoyable for bad moviefans? Only for a bit, because there are way funnier films out there with more mistakes in them etc. This one steers more to the boring side of things. It doesn't run for too long though, so you might still have a luagh with a few beers and a few friends.

Hehe, I won't :)

Cauldron: Baptism of Blood - late Ted V. Mikels film about a satanic cult converting people who are willing and those who resist get to be a human sacrifice, yay! Lots of interestingly dressed up women are twirling their hips and some ritual dance while a second rate hologram of a demonic head appears above them. A singer who just won a national talent contest now gets targeted by the cult because she refused to sell her soul to the demon. The rituals take very long, and the dances don't seem to serve a purpose other than showing some skin. The rituals take up so much time that it is kind of surprising that in the 102 minutes this film is running they actually get a sacrifice done. I must say that the acting of the leads wasn't even that bad but the effects and the performance of all the extras are below par. The atmosphere is one of fun and expectations to burst out in hilarious laughter. I really enjoyed watching this and this one is much more fun to watch than Dimension in Fear, the other film Mikels made more recently (ie, after the 70s). Recommended for bad moviefans!

Pyewacket - Leah, a girl who lost her father is into occult stuff and reads books about it and goes to events with her friends which are related to the subject, like the booksigning by an author they all like. Her mother has a really hard time to cope with the death of erh husband so tshe decides to move up north to the countryside, a house in the forest. At first Leah hates the idea but she finds the forest interesting, When her mother throws some insults her way she wishes her dead and performs a ritual to invoke Pyewacket. The next day she regrets having done this but in order to stop the evil spirit she has to perform the rutail backwards before it gets to her mother: if she fails, her mother will die and she will be next. Pretty ok movie, atmosphere is quite nice. Problem with this film is not the acting, which is pretty well done, it;s the script: Leah has to perform the ritual which got recommended by the author whom she met at the booksigning: so far so good with the story but from then on it's so strange, she doesn't really perform the ritual backwards and then she tries to fight the with but because the author told her not to trust her lying eyes (the spirit can take on any form) she
Spoiler:
burns her mother.
The end. Weird, felt a bit unfinished to me. So overall quite a nice film it's just the ending fucks it all up really.

The Uranium Conspiracy - only watched this one because it was on a double feature with Metamorphosis, but when I saw it had Fabio Testi and Janet Agren, my interest grew. An agent (Testi) is tracking down a uranium shipment that seems to go on a clandestine trip after which it will be sold to a foreign country by The Baron, an Austrian white collar criminal. When Testi tries to track him down in Austria, he meets one of his employees (Agren) and they have some pleasure time together. After this, Testi returns to his hometown Venice, so there are some nice shots from the canals there and the San Marco square. The ship is about to leave from Amsterdam so Testi, Agren and the criminals all go there and there are some interestinfg chases through the canals and now we get to see some good shots from Amsterdam. The ship is gonna be loaded in Antwerp, so.... you guessed it: this is some extensive European sightseeing tour with some fights, chase and shootouts to patch it all together. I had fun, especially with the scenes in Amsterdam because it was nice to try and recognize where in the city they were because it looked very different 40 years ago. In the shootiuts there was some for the weapin nerds: lots of WWII arms like MP40 and Stengun. I had fun but it was a bit repetitive, the presence of several languages was nicely done though: you can hear English, Italian, Spanish, German, French and Dutch. Maybe the crew got some money from the European Community ;)

The Tomb of Ligeia - Classic horror with Vincent Price starring in an Edgar Allen Poe story about a woman who died, or did she? Her tomb is adorned with the saying "nor lie in death forever" and creatures around it, like a black cat, act strangely. When Verden Fell (Price), the widower of Ligeia, meets Lady Rowena (Elizabeth Shepherd), she begins to like him and after a while they get married. Soon Rowena will find out that there is more to the death of Ligeia than Fell wants to share with the world.... Classic, atmospheric bit not really scary, that describes this film best. Watch it for the nice pictures and for the acting perofrmance of Shepherd who is the real star of this film. Only for fans of the classics I guess.

Daisy Derkins Dogsitter of the Damned - wow, this was disappointing in many ways! At first, the DVD is not a real DVD it's a DVDR. I think companies selling DVDRs should be closed down, it's just some kind of a scam. Then the cover: everything you see on the cover which is in colour is not in the film. So no, that busty babe with the long dark hair is not in the film. Neither are the two huge dogs. Then the film: it's in black and white for no apparent reason, the second character appearing in the film is taking overacting to a new level, then there is a bunch of girls who aren't really acting at all, just being there and rolling their eyes way too obviously. There is a serial killer character that never talks, just growls sometimes and also just being there. All action is offscreen, some roles are doubled by actors which is pretty obvious too, music is that annoying kind of teenage punk from the US which always makes me feel like punching the bandmembgers in the face and the Cerberus dog is the worst cgi since 1992. Isn't there anything good about this movie? There is: the main charcater at least tries to do a good job at acting, Annamarie Ruggiero is a hot looking babe and the guy in the dogsuit at the end made me laugh out loud because of it's stupidity. Bad moviefans will need some stamina even though it's only 75 minutes. And to think they made sequels to this!

Ancient Warriors - actionflick with a slight touch of horror. A bad guy is searching for a legendary potion supposedly buried in a mine. Some paramilitary team is gonna try and stop him, largely because the teamleader's dad got killed in a previous operation by one of the people in the bad guy's entourage. The cast is interesting: Franco Columbu, whom you might know from his performances with Arnold Schwarzenegger, is the lead actor and it's obvious he is better at weightlifting than at acting. Others in the team are Daniel Baldwin who is portrayed as a chickmagnet (hilarious) and Michelle Hunziker who is obviously cast for her looks more than anything else. The bad guy is Richard Lynch who earned some fame from his roles in Italian cinena from the 1980s. The touch of horror is brough to you by see through appearances of warriors of the ancient culture that supposedly possessed the legendary potion. Loads of nonsense and gratuitous violence and a happy ending. You might slightly enjoy this as a bad moviefan, I have seen actionfilms in which I had way more fun than in this one.

Blood of the Virgins - aka Sangre de Virgenes, an Argentinian vampirefilm from the 60s, hadn't watched such a film before. Story is very simple: girl gets turned into a vampire somewhere in the 1800s, in the 1960s she haunts a group of travellers who run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, with an abandoned lodge as the only refuge for the night. Of course this is the vampire's hideout and now the travellers are up for some bites. Very slow film, lots of long shots of people kissing, lots of landscape shots which show you Argentina in a non-typical way with skiing courses and accomodations and the like. Almost everyone gets naked at some point, sometimes because of a love scene, other times because they are just dancing, because, you know, the 60s. The horrorpart is like in the classics from Europe: stylish but not very scary. I had fun but this film is more a curiosity than a real skincrawler. Bad moviefans might have fun with the obviously exaggerated South American humoristic characters who are only funny if you are born west of the Atlantic apparently.
