Watched this movie earlier this week and was very plesantly surprised. Despite an obviously low budget, the script in the most part was top class and the core actors did a very impressive job. The dialogue between the family was pretty funny at times.

Of course those who have seen it will have seen the basic story a few times before ie. jacob's ladder but I thought it was very well done with a minimum amount of sets and resources. I enjoyed the way the death's and body shots were done too, reminded me more of the 'less is better' mentality of a lot of the best horror films around.

My only cripe was the 'look at us we were ever so cheap' ending, it treated the audience like idiots and had to fall into the normal hollywood trap of telling the audience exactly what happened, where a better ending would have been to stop on the hostpital bit immediately and show the nurse's badge . Everything from then on was just wasted time and spoilt the atmos.

However, I was very impressed with the film. I was expecting more hollywood tripe and it wasn't half bad. If you've got and haven't watched, or you haven't grabbed it yet. Give it a try!

I watched it and was laughing my ass off the entire time.Great movie..not what I was expecting at all...of course I figured out what the hell was going on about 10 minutes in and nudged the wife and let her in on it.She didn't beleive me and I ended up beeing right so that was an extra added bonus to proclaim"I'm the winner!!".I think your right on the less is better thinking in this film...I didn't need to see a pile of gore to enjoy it.An old Hitchcock lesson about the imagination beeing more powerful than the showing of it came to mind.I would recomend it...especially if you got your girlfriend over. :beerchug:

I don't think it's a masterpiece, but certainly worth seeing.

Didn't you think it was one of the best scripted horror movies from the states for quite a while. The banted between the kiddiewinks and some of the stuff that happened was funny.

Very, very obvious though, and you'll of course pick up on what's happening if you've seen any horror movie before, but still I thought it was a nice ride.

the more I think about this film the more I realise I may have misjudged it, it is by no means a classic, not even close, but it was actually more entertaining in retrospect for some bizarre reason.

I think the thing that did me in was the fact that I got it into my head what kinda film it was gonna be before I watched it, and it was completely different and I was somewhat disappointed. The ending was indeed fuckin shit, it took the most obvious ending and did not even try to be original, I for one saw it coming a mile off.

The thing I like best about these movies, well any horror type films really, is how stupid the ppl are. You get all this spooky shit going, and the fucktards still stop and wander around, even tho half of them have been horribly mutilated, if that was me I would hit the gas pedal and not take my foot off LOL

Same as Zombie films, for starters, if I shot something 20 times and it never died, I would kinda like try shooting it in the head. Second, most zombies are slow, and feeble, surely you must be pretty stupid to actually get surrounded by them LOL Also, why do none of the ppl in these films use swords and meat cleavers? I mean, they never run out of ammo like guns, as I type I am assembling my Zombie survival kit, so far I have a 21 volt cordless hammerdrill, OK as long as there is power to recharge, I also have a meat cleaver, a samurai sword, and, thanks to Shaun of the dead, a swing ball and my dad's vinyl collection.

but then, the film would suck ass if they didn't go look.

To be fair, it wasn't that bad in dead end, the pop was drunk and lost a lot of blood, his wife was missing her mind and the kid, well, what was he to know lol.

Agreed though, people are idiots.

I am just kidding, these films would be pretty short if they were as sensible as real ppl.

All I can say is praise the lord for idiots.

Aaaargh, I posted this in the wron thread, this was supposed to go to the Haute Tension thread. I didn't notice it before! :-o

My real opinion of Dead End is here:

Polityk wrote:
I've just seen the movie and I have to say it's absolutely fucking brilliant. It's creepy enough without loads of blood and limbs torn off, but what I think really makes it great is the sense of humour.

PC_Arcade wrote:
IMHO the film is as much a study of fear and the breakdown of the family unit as it is about the "plot" itself.

I think you got a point there, that's how I read it too. See how many dark secrets a family can have... It's also a study of the usual stereotypes: a mother who always knows better, a father who is the head of the family and tries to be authoritative, a pregnant daugter and a "rebel" son who's only interests are: teasing other people with stupid jokes, rock music and jerking off... Watch how those stereotypes work out in a critical situation.

One of the best texts:
00:34:30
-"How's Marrion doing?"
-"she's pregnant."

This is not about this movie being or not being a horror flick. I don't judge movies by the amount of blood shown in them. The dialogues in this one are brilliant (and I think they contain some very true observations). Even without the horror part the flick would have been great. And the scene with the lip bitten off is just a nice bonus.

i also liked it. nice atmosphere, but yeah, the ending was weak, sometimes i just wish someone had the guts to just end it abruptly or something, that would really freak me out. although i can see that it could be very unsatisfying. but the family dynamics looked a bit too soap-opera-ish to me though.

I think it was meant to be this way. I think this movie, among all thins, is also a spoof of soap operas.

man I laughed alot from this movie.

'Look, I drew a picture of Brad. See his leg torn off there?'

The mom character was so funny...

And the daughter had stiff nipples at times!

'Eh, I smoke pot'

yup, tons of great lines in this one. Just when it was being creepy, it suddenly went to comedy, then back to creepy again.

'The bitch shot me! In the leg!'

man did that one make me laugh.

Or "If the dead are alive, maybe we should check Richard?" dialogue. Yes, the mother was hilarious, although at times she was also very annoying...

And the daughter's nipples... damn, I didn't notice. I guess now I'll have to watch the movie once again!

My favorite scene is when the brother goes out the woods with the porno mag...That right there made me instantly love this movie.
