I'm somewhat on the other side of the spectrum on this. I think it's because the zombies in a movie like 28 Days Later weren't really reanimated dead, they were living people infected with a virus. It feels like that type of zombification is more realistic than bringing back dead people, and in that sense, it hits a little closer to home. What if a form of rabies or something mutated, and everyone DID become crazy bloodthirsty animals?
I'm totally not knocking the classic zombies though... I love those movies. I just think I might be more inclined to be scared of something I can somehow see as being possible.

WHEN THERE'S NO MORE ROOM IN HELL.................THE DEAD WILL POWER SPRINT THE EARTH.
After seeing some new stuff on the official website I think the faster moving zombies will work just fine....
Yeah,in 1978 the slow moving crowd of zombies closing in on you were pretty scary, but for todays standards that's not terrifying enough.... :-o
Imagine yourself being stuck in the mall of the classic Dawn...what would you do?I would sit on the rooftop all day and have a little targetpractice with my undead buddies....
How many zombies could possibly be around in this area? And they are not low on ammo, there's a gunshop in the mall...
I also watched the NOTLD-remake again last week..those zombies are no big threat either(see the zombie with doll scene),take the winchester and just go until you find those guncrazy rednecks...
As long as the zombies are pretty fresh the running looks ok,but nearly completely rotten zombies which powersprint would definitely suck(like the tarman or some of the Day-zombies,how could they run and jump when their muscles are so rotten that they fall apart?),but from what I have seen in the trailer and tv-spots they did a great job...
Let's just wait and see,the film starts in the US on the 19th,I just hope there will be a screener-version out soon...

problem is, they are meant to be rotting corpses in pain, hence they eat. You don't go do the marathon if your legs are rotted off and your muscles don't work. Zombies have power by numbers, leading to a painful death (see Day of the Dead)
I don't mind a bit of fast moving when they approach a victim, I mean I would despite having rotten limbs... i'd be thinking "fuck me, some food!" and try and grab him before some other zombie did. But i'd expect them to be slow and dumb the rest of the time.
I can't think how they will get any sprinting zombies out of the mall and how they can 'blissfully live' with some fast moving fuckers around the place. The whole point about Dawn of the Dead to me, was the sheer situation, the arrogance (that's why most people die in it) and the attempts to live through the nightmare as if everything was fine. Then finally in the end, it isn't the zombies but other humans that screw the main characters over.

Like I said before, I think, the scary part for me was the constant, yet slow, onslaught of the bastards. For some reason the running acrobats in this new film seem less scary, not sure why tho, maybe it is cos they appear more human in there movements.

i agree, the slow moving zombies were more scary because even though tehy were slow they always came in huge numbers and they came across as having no purpose except to kill and eat, also because they were dead they were rotting so the thought of death was always there with them making them seem evil, bloodthirsty, cruel etc, whereas running zombies just dont seem quite scary at all, more like the london marathon or just meeting your neighbour outside while theyre having a jog in the morning... although hopefully your neighbour wont try to bite off your arm.. although with my neighbours im not so sure

My neighbours have a son called leatherface, he is a bit weird and claims to be a tree surgeon. He runs around all day chopping off tree branches and he expects me to believe a half baked story like that?
I have warned him that I know several guitar playing Ninja's who will "take him out" if he even looks at me funny.

First of all, I just finished watching Undead... I thought it was pretty good.
So, here is one to the Aussies:
My all time favorite zombie movie is the original Dawn Of The Dead.
I am really anticipating the release of the remake, I think it looks pretty damn good by the trailer.
I am a effects kinda guy, so when they remake a movie, the effects are almost always pretty damn awesome.
Resident Evil is one bad ass flick. I cant wait for RE2...
A quick note. Return of the Living 1 & 2 were more of a comedy than anything, but the zombies were badass.. Return of the Living Dead 3 was alright... not enough Zombies.
Day of the Dead was pretty damn cool also... Being stuck down there with those fuckin loony G.I.s woulda sucked.
Well, thats my opinion..
Just wait..... The remake of DotD will be fuckin awesome.

holy crap, talk about an advertising boost. Last night some poster changes must have been busy, there's adverts all over the side of buses and on billboards across Leeds.

imo that footage is such a let down... I seriously hope this film picks up. As it stands, the first minutes don't hold a candle to the original's begining. Not even close.
Doesn't deserve to be associated with the originals if this is what to expect

@spud, I aint considering this a remake, that way I will not be dissappointed when things change LOL The start of this is indeed inferior to the original, but atleast it seems they wont spend the first hour "getting to know" the characters and will jump right in.
@Bass, I keep meaning too, but just all over the place lately and aint had time, prolly end up grabbing a cam, then a TS, then the screener LOL If I do not make it to the cinema, I will buy this on DVD to "show my support" to the industry.
