The "damn we have a near zero clipping distance! I know.... fog!" atmosphere? Yeah, art direction of silent hill, but it wasn't a close call for me. Resident Evil by far!

they don't make em like that any more.

I love the sound of the doors opening on that game.

Even to this day when I play it thru emulation when the game loads and you get the soundtrack, sends chills.

I loved playing that game.

:-o

You're right i hate that sound!!!

There is something about it!

While on the topic of survival horror games and alien breed.

When you look at the differeence in those two games and the gap between them 93ish - 2004 it's amazing how far games have come.

I remember the days of amiga (or even BBC Micro) and NES and those games now pale in significance with the raw power and gameplay of new gen consoles!

Wonder where we'll be in 2014 and will it still be RE or will that be retro?

And only 10 votes come on you lurkers get voting!!!!

u mean those aliens ARENT bill gates? way to ruin my childhood :P

personally i liked alien breed 2 and tower assault joint best, but i agree they dont make games like that... except that one company actually does sort of, they produce modern games in teh style of the old point and click games like the original monkey island, beneath a steel sky etc,

heres a link -

ed2k: Adventures_of_Fatman.bin  [244.71 Mb] [Stats]
Adventures_of_Fatman.cue

games like that had more playability and story then a lot of games today (resident evil aside) i could still play the original monkey island or the kings quest games or beneath a steel sky etc anyday

[ Add all 2 links to your ed2k client ]

it's moore's law in action

Think about it, processor transistor depth doubles every 18-ish months, which means that in 36 months time its four times better, in 54 months its 8 times better, etc. because it doubles the value that has previously doubled each time.

Hmm why didn't I just say quadratic?

That means dramatic changes in a short amount of time. However, as I've posted somewhere in your absense I believe, this is all going to take a huge hit on us come next generation. Graphics simply won't be wow factor in 1/2 generations time, and as everyone knows, not enough emphasis is on gameplay. Meaning development houses are going to be up shit creek unless they focus more on gameplay :)

I think its starting to hit Survival Horror just as much, especially fixed cameras. With pre-rendered backdrops, graphic improvement just isn't enough, and having played RE: Rebirth, if the formula isn't changed, that's about it for the franchise, no place to go.

ed2k: Amiga.Emulators.-.600+games.-.kicks.-.workbench.etc.ISO  [698.63 Mb] [Stats]

btw whose moore? patrick "gamesmaster" moore? also resident evil 4 looks like a step in the right direction for the franchise adding a pretty radical direction for re

Thats what I mean, I think we've peaked in a way and games need to relay now on playability rather then :

Which is what I believe Nintendo always hit!

They have the graphics, but always the gameplay too :D

It's why I've always like the big N!

my amiga was beaten up by a tv. Was too flimsy and my friend drop a tv (and an 80s aka huge ugly tv at that) on it, and it wouldn't boot.

now that's something about the snes, best made console... ever. That took a right beating, we're talking watching russel crowe act kind of beating.

NES on the other hand is totally kaput... but the snes was/is simply one solid lump of japanese labour  Master System was another well constructed piece too.
