OLDBOY (2003) by Chan-wook Park

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/

<img src="http://www.koreafilm.co.kr/movie/oldboy/p.jpg">

Plot Outline: A recently paroled middle-aged man, who spent 15 years in prison without any explanation as to why he was jailed, seeks revenge on those who brought him down.

since not everyone here on board is a member of FH or ACF
i think it?s my duty to post this gem because nobody did so far.
unfortunately i don?t know how to copy a complete post so
i stole parts of javaoperas FH-Post (links & specs), please forgive me.

this is an absolutely masterpiece of asian cinema.
disturbing and beautiful - very believable characters, in times really hard to watch (e.g. the leading actor consumes some octupus of remarkable size - ALIVE, damnit!!!).
however, this isn?t a cheap superficial shocker at all.....see for yourself!
watch if you haven?t already, highly recommended!

this movie definitely deserves a 2CDRip:

Easiest way is to log in and then quote the first post, then copy and paste to a new thread here.

Thanks. Gonna give this a go on your recommendation.

This is an excellent film :)
My only (minor) critisism it's slightly too long.

You may be interested to know that it has amazingly been passed uncut by the <a href ="http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/ClassifiedWorks/04C4B51F9EED05E380256F11001B4813?OpenDocument">BBFC</a>

Have it, but not seen yet. Will check out today. Didn't this win an Oscar or something?

@JD: As far as i know it didn?t get no oscar, but the goddamn american remake will get one then..... :D

@George: In Germany it was uncut as well, although u know the german censorshipinstitutions are pretty prudish when it comes to violence or disgusting scenes, guess they accepted Oldboy as an artfilm.
Have to add that the film was only shown on a filmfest so far,
supposably it won?t be released for the general public.

@PC_Arcade: Yeah it?s a long movie but i didn?t realize that as i watched it

@Karst: Thanx for the info, will consider it next time.

I guess you're right, I think anything with subtitles gets an easier ride here in the UK as well, except Nekromantik of course

I saw it a week ago, got amazing speeds downloading it (~50 kB/s). The movie is cool and I think it's really understandable why Tarantino liked it so much...

There were some thing I didn't like, but I'm not able to tell you what it was without spoilers, so I'll just better keep my mouth shut. :)

Really liked it. The story had great pacing and beautiful cinematorgraphy. The loooong fight scene, done only in one shot, was amazing. The way the story unfolds was also very nicely done, typically Asian. All in all a great movie that I enjoyed every second of.
