Saw this link over on Shareconnector and thought might be of interest to some people here?
Have always read about this peice of film being the first known film reel in existance, but never seen what it actually entailed.
Nothing exciting here, although some recollections are of people fleeing the cinema in beleif that the train was going to crash through screen!!

I was hoping you might be interested in this.
I thought is something most film enthusiasts would know of and want to check out
Fast download as small file, and basically just what it says, train arriving at station
But has to be seen, as to think it was shot in 1895 - 110 years ago!!!

Watched it allready! =)
Was surprised by the good quality! Rather smooth movement, not to quirky. Really fun to watch. hehe, if you wanna do a double feature, you should team it up with 'Forgotten Silver'. =)

Yeah i was surprised by the quality too, I always expected this to be of really bad quality and jerky and literally just a train travelling for like 5 seconds, concidering it's the frist piece of motion footage recorded.
But to see the people all bustling around was wierd.
What I really love about the early use of film/cinema and when it was first invented is that so much of the footage was horror related
We all know of Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), but just shortly after this train footage a short movie was made Manor of the Devil, very much beleived to be the first Vampire flick - in 1896!!!!
And of course there is Thomas Edisons venture into film with Frankenstein, shot in 1910!!!!
From 1896-1930 onwards was one big horror fest film wise!
I would really love to see the 1910 Frankenstein, that was 1st before this train footage on my wants

I thought this was the first outdoor footage. The first footage was "Man Sneezing" from 1894, one year prior to the train footage.
Eddison copyrighted it in 1894 for use on the new projectors he's stolen the idea off and patented

yup definitely ealier:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0000008/
Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze (1894)
On a topical issue, I *think* this is being played in Bram Stoker's Dracula when she goes to see the cinemascopes or whatever they are peddling them as. I can't remember, and I'm not going to suffer the mental trauma of watching that movie again to check

lol, yeah, but they are both pretty lame beyond their historical value. The kitten boxing sounds cool though, I think that was from 1894 too.
