Shit, my shell crashes every time I mark the file or try to do anything with it.

This should be easy to fix: disable the previews./thumbnails.
About subtitles: have you tried both the .srt and the vobsub?

You can directly download the vobsubs here:
http://mio.discoremoto.virgilio.it/trep/

select the file and click on "Scarica" (=download in ITA).

Have you tried to load the subs explicitily from the program's menu? Or just relied on "same name" autoloading? Any info is apreciated.

Okay, so, I figured out how to get the movie and subs to appear in Windows on VLC. First, I had to rip them to .srt format. The vobs would not show up for me. Then, its a simple-ish matter of starting the program, choosing "Open File" (not quick open), browse and choose the video file, check the box that says subtitle options, hit the settings button next to the subtitle options, choose the subs file in the new window that pops up, hit okay to close the subtitle settings, hit okay again to start the movie with subs.

Not the best player around, but for a few worthwhile movies, why not?

Trep, you might want to up a .srt to extratitles or somewhere. I would up mine, but I know that I used the wrong character somewhere, so its not perfect.

Hope this helps someone. Thanks again for the movie.

Happy to hear that :D
I do care that people enjoy (let alone are able to see!) the movies I rip. Maybe I'll go back to divx for the next rips - I'm worried for people that just find the movie searching and don't have a forum to ask help for it :( .

OK, everything is fine with the subs now. I know why it crashes, I know it's because of the thumbnails - just wanted *you* to know, perhaps it would be helpful in finding the reason it's not compatible.

EDIT: Turns out the subs are *not* working fine, they crash my VLC. :o
