well bsplayer is fine, so is zoomplayer
But i actually prefer "VideoLan player"
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It might not look the best, but it has all the features i need, it streams incomplete files, even plays the contents of packed files, and it doesnt need ANY codecs at all
So deffo worth a checkup

VLC does not like my system, just the same as core player hates me too. I am still using BSplayer ATM as it is the only one so far that wil work consistently.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but could nayone tell me where to brag this XBox media thing?
Never worked right last time, but now I have a newer system and thought I would try it again, but the link here leads to a page of writing that has a disgusting colour scheme that I cannot even see properly.

Cheers PCA, I kinda knew you would answer first LOL
I understand XBMP and XBMC are different, but any other apps that will do the same sorta thing as XBMC?

An Xbox would be wasted, we rarely play games here, maybe a few strategy games and a few MMORPG.
Will have to have a look at WMC, all want is a fancy front end type thing to impress poor ppl.

But installing a whole new OS is a bit extreme just to get a nice front end type thingy LOL
I have not looked in WMC much, but I do not have all of the hardware to use all the features, I assume this will/would not be a problem? Also, just how different is WMC to standard XP Pro?
Sorry to sound dense, but would I be looking at different drivers? Normal XP software work fine on it? Anyone who knows please answer.
I am gonna be carefull on this one, normally I would jump str8 in and regret it later, but not this time.

acceptable? yes, everything is acceptable sir
If you mean is it a good representation of quality, bare in mind (and this is a guessestimate):
a) it takes a cap from your directshow filter, so make sure its not got any freaky extra brightness or gamma out of line.
b) just check it doesn't add any boarders and it maintains the proper resolution and AR, it may do this if you've resized the window.
Those just make sure the screenshots actually represent the video you see. Other than that it doesn't matter too much whichever program you choose for screendumps, its more or less the same procedure.

MediaPortal was shit LOL
Currently using VLC, latest version is working great so far, altho it has lost the ability to play BIN files without the CUE file being present, but only a minor thing.
So does VLC not use the standard codecs or soemthing?

TBH that MediaPortal was about as usefull as XBMC was, ie. total bollocks. Has potential tho.

I think VLC is streaming the file so you don't need any codecs, that's what i heard from a buddy who could be described as a computer-geek,so I guess it's true...
Bs-Player and VLC,that's all I need...
Cheers!

It seems that VLC is not so good after all. It will always go outta audio sync after aroun 20 minutes or so.

That's really strange. I've never had that problem. What files has it happened with?

I tried VLC now, thanks to all the good words here, but I am disappointed - it is very slow and takes up a lot of memory. It's back to Zoom Player (for series) and Media Player Classic (movies) for me.
