It might sound stupid, but...

Well, I am burning DVDs for some time now, but only recently have I started burning entire DVDs (instead of just ISOs). And what the hell, I though, why not go there all the way. And so after locating a HP inkjet capable of printing on CDs, I bought a pack od printable DVDs.

But here's where my (probably trivial) problem is - is there any particular order in which I should do it? Can I burn a DVD now and print on it in, let's say, a month? Can printing on a full DVD do any damage to it? Maybe I should just print in first and then burn? Yeah, it does sound stupid even to me now  , but I just prefer to be safe than sorry (and I've already encountered my share of silly little problems when PCs are concerned  )

I use printable Verbatim DVD-R?s and always burn first
then print it with my Epson R200.
Worked fine for me so far, never tried the other way

i think the R300 try thingy elevates the disc so the data surface isn't touching the bottom, so it won't matter... given the heat though, i would burn first, then print.

BTW, is there any special programs or image processing that needs to be done to print on the discs in the epsons? I've not done it before.

I just use the software that come with the printer.

Be warned though, they take an eternity to fully dry. They look good when they're done though

Personally I prefer the scribble in black marker approach.

Seriously tho, like the man said, burning first would be wise due to the heat.

I use Epson Print CD for the DVD-R printing.
Just make sure if you use Verbatim or other
DVD-R?s which are full size printable (even the little ring inside)
that u chance the setting of the printable area in the software
to max (e.g. 20mm / 120mm) so you can print the whole area.
Printing looks pretty nice, good for presents :D

Thanks for all the input guys! I've already burnt some of them and when the time comes, into the mouth of the printer they go. I'll take my time with them drying up, don't want to mess everything up at this point  Not that it'd be such a disaster anyway, after all, the important thing's what's on the disks.

The DVD+Rs I got are Platinum 8x, those are (from my experience) as good as Verbatim, but half the price, so a cheap and reliable shit. They have the ring in the middle empty as well as a little bit left on the edges, but that's OK with me, I'm not gonna pretend those are fokking retails or anything, just want them to look a bit nicer than plain disks. The printer isn't mine and all I know is that it's an HP and it's capable of priniting on disks. I'm not sure if there is/was any specific software for that, but if there was, the guy that owns it is sure to have lost it somewhere already (he's all smart and nice, but when it comes to anything electronic, he's the kind of guy that'd have trouble plugging a monitor to a PC). btw is there any particular unviersal software for that kind of thing or is it enough to just use what the manufacturer provides?

btw I was a follower of the Path of the Black Marker for some years now too, but I decided I'd tried some of the fancy stuff. Plus, it's freaking dirty and boring thing, and after all those years my hand sometimes feels like it's going to fall off (I still can't believe I've scribbled down the full titles of all the Futurama, Family Guy, Flying Circus, Blackadder and Fawlty Towers episodes, not to mention others, but that was when I was younger).

LOL, yeah, for presents, I prefer buying the DVDs too (though I once gave a friend of mine a downloaded copy of Monty Python Live at Hollywood Bowl and he was happier than if I'd given him all the shite from the local store), just as I'd prefer to get a bought DVD than a homemade "working copy" of anything  .

Still I can't understand why my girlfriend was ummm, confused, when I got her Romero's NOTLD for birthday last year (the only thing she said was "well, at least it's not Evil Dead") :? .

btw. if anyone's thinking of signing up to screenselect, dead-donkey has an affiliate thingy setup with them:

nah....well they have never capped me that i know of :wacky: i only grab 1 disc at a time since storage and burning em is a bit of a dodgy area cuz basically i'm a slacker and just pile em up on my HD and dislike using dvd rebuilder to cram a dvd9 onto a dvd5 so i hold out and burn em to dvd9 (if i really want the whole thing) if not i take main title and put onto a dvd5 when i get round to it :)

wow, you burn DVD9s? I've got the dvdrebuilder to an art now.
My second pc is a DVDr factory, now that it has the rebuild to iso function dvdrebuilder does everything but burn (actually it does burn too, but I would rather DVDdecrypter handle that)...
Vastly improved, takes a couple of clicks, and you can blank extras/remove menus now :)

With screenselect i have 3 on the go at once, rip and send back the same day, then either burn if its 5, or just add the project the the continual batch process, and repeat.

have you tried the lower quality settings btw? they really aren't that bad, then again, anything i want the extras for I buy anyway

to 2 dvds though is even worse, i'd rather pay the millions of dollars extra for a DVD9

yeah i've tried the lower quality settings on the extras and wasn't impressed...and with regards to buying the dvd's i want extras on i'm not that rich and i do actually buy a LOT of dvd's....so yeah dvd9's is the answer but again a bit costly atm :wacky:
