Here is an exceptionally bizarre Japanese underground flick mixing animal exploitation, Butoh dance and (perhaps somewhat obscure) social satire.

Originally ripped by contender@CrazyMazeys, and kindly reshared by ib50@Karagarga. The quality is very low, but, as the claim is, this movie has never been released in a commercial form.

Quote:
Directed by Japanese underground legend Yoshihiko Matsui, most famous for his epic film Noisy Requiem, and his early work with maverick Japanese director Sogo Ishii (Gojoe, Crazy Thunder Road), Pig Chicken Suicide is a veritable assault on the senses, mixing violent images of animal slaughter, racial strife and surrealism to tell the story of 2 Koreans living in Japan, whose love is destroyed due to overwhelming racial discrimination .

Quote:
MATSUI's debut film, "RUSTY EMPTY CAN"(1979), was photographed by Sogo ISHII ; nonetheless the film turned out to be a serious and emotionally painful one unlike ISHII's speedy roller-coaster movies. The film which depicts a homosexual relationship was success at the many film festival held in Japan. "RUSTY EMPTY CAN" is still shown at theaters today as it has become the pioneer of cult movies with devoted fans and approval from Nagisa OSHIMA and Shuji TERAYAMA.

MATSUI shot his second film, "PIG-CHICKEN SUICIDE"(1981). This film depicts two Koreans living in Japan and their love which is torn apart due to racial discrimination. The film was kindly given the opportunity of a long-run showing at Shuji TERAYAMA's theater, "Tenjo-Sajiki-kan". Kazuo HARA, well known as the documentary film director, is the director of photography for this film.

In 1983, MATSUI started to shoot "NOISY REQUIEM"--- a movie which was thought to be impossible to shoot and as Shuji TERAYAMA commented, "would be a scandal if made into a movie".

However, the selection for a suitable cast and location did not go smoothly and thus the shooting was delayed till the next summer. The film was finally released on the 26th of May, 1988, breaking the record of the number of audience at most theaters. Yet the number of viewers shows no declination.

MATSUI's production has been able to pay for all expenses with the success of all films. This is very uncommon for an independent film production.

Although the film was scheduled to be shown at festivals in various countries, unfortunately, it was banned at all places. However, ten years later in 1998, the film was shown in seven cities including GERMANY and NORWAY, DENMARK with favorable reviews...

Not at all...

It looks like there are even no official DVDs and videotapes in circulation in Japan, let alone the Western countries. It should probably qualify as hardcore underground... :?

(My personal objective for watching it is that it seems to have been regarded by Shuji Terayama, who I admire beyond limits. But, I guess, different people may look at it from different angles... 8) )

I personally wasnt that into this (and I remember contender himself having loads of defective discs from 5 minutes movies) that said its surely an item people will want to see for themself

As for your opinion on Shuji Terayama I agree he is awesome Pastoral To Die In the Country is the one I urge people to see the ever fine auess ripped it and its floating around on emule even subless its one of the most visual pleasing films you'll ever see.

I will release the English subs for that in a few days. Even though the subs are imperfect, I promise you will see a whole new dimension to the movie after you get some idea about the dialog. After all, Terayama has been a poet first and foremost, so words DO matter... :wacky:

By the way, many people have expressed an opinion that it would have been better if contender had chosen a resolution somewhat higher than 272x208 for his rip :o But we're all grateful to him anyway. In the end, it's such a rare movie... :argue:

thats it helge79 I'm of the camp that anythings better than nothing I rarely watch a film more than once and for more obscure films its just nice they surface in any form.

as for eng subs for pastoral to die in the country wooaahhh thats awesome news its made my xmas.
:beerchug:.
I love it to pieces probably the standout film arts wise Ive seen this year.Odd thing is so many subless films I dont sit through longer than a quick scan but that you cant take your eyes off Ive watched it 2-3 times allready even without subs.

Ive been on a real Toshio Matsumoto session lately theres 3 of his on emule now and stunning, ive liked 'em so much ive started to share 'em on usenet they need a change from zombies'n'slashers.

Are you asking about Pig Chicken Suicide or about Shuji Terayama's Pastoral (which is what Nomad and I were talking about)?

I doubt the subs for Pig Chicken Suicide will come available any time soon (for all the reasons I've already mentioned). As for the Pastoral, the subs have been released here:

http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=10163

(and I would very much encourage you to watch that movie: it's a stunning, impossibly original and largely overlooked masterpiece... Image)
