The imagery and ideas are the same, or at least similar, but they are not remakes. Two TV movies (the second features about 40 minutes of reused footage), usually called just Ju-On and Ju-On 2. Followed by two theatrical sequels (they're sequels becasue they reference the characters and events in the TV movies, usually called Ju-On: The Grudge and Ju-On: The Grudge 2. There is an Enlgish language version called The Grudge being made by the same director. I'm unsure if thsi is to be a 4th sequel or a remake.
Anyway, they're scary and I love them. Ju-On: The Grudge is the weakest (I don't really count Ju-On 2 as a seperate movie from Ju-On), but still has some great moments. Ju-On: The Grudge 2 is a nive return to form, right up there with the TV ones.
