Quote:
With HPE (Hardcore Poisoned Eyes) Sal Ciavarello has crafted a slick and effective horror film. Shot entirely on Digital Video, on what I'm assuming is a shoestring budget; Ciavarello has succeeded in doing what so many filmmakers have failed in. HPE doesn't work because it's silly, or camp, or dumb horror you can drink to, it works because it's well written, acted, and above all directed.

Angelique (Christine Gallo), Sarah (Wendy Allyn) and Ellie (Jessica Hester) are three friends vacationing at a cabin in the dead of winter in upstate New York. Angelique has an ulterior motive for the trip. Her grandfather was murdered in a robbery attempt, an attempt that Angelique finds hard to swallow. Apparently, her grandfather was doing research on satanic cults for a book he was writing and was in contact with a member from a local sect. Angelique believes said cult has something to do with her grandfather's murder. That night, in a drunken stupor, Sarah calls Angelique's grandfathers "contact" and rambles about knowing what he did, and that they are presently at the cabin. Realizing what they have done, the girls are now fully aware of a drunken joke gone terribly wrong and that they are in store for a true night of terror.

Hardcore Poisoned Eyes is far from a perfect film. HPE is definitely not without its problems, but the bottom line is that it is a really good film. The script is engaging and intelligently written, containing deep-rooted conversations in religion, among other things. The characters are well developed, and most of all interesting. All 3 female leads provide effective performances. There are some truly chilling moments in this film, and you're probably gonna want to watch it more than once, right off the bat.

That was one bitch of a DVD!  Okay this is the second rip and the quality might
not be what your expecting, but bare in mind that this is a extremely low budget
movie and shot on those awful digital cameras and you start to get the pciture.
The DVD was, well digital video camera footage, you could tell that the cameras
use for this movie weren't too great, but we tried to clean up the source a bit,
after de-interlacing and resizing the picture it actually looks about as good as
the source. I wouldn't expect anything better of this movie, which is a shame.
If you watch this on a standalone it will look good, but for those projector people
this won't look too hot, but as said, this is the best your going to get, even
if you have the DVD.
With all that said, its a good rip... we just don't like to dissapoint in the
quest to provide weird and wonderful horror movies.

As an added bonus, we decided to include the directors and the producers commentry,
since the Dead & Buried commentries seemed to be very popular.  It gives a bit of
insight into this movie, but runs out of steam and leaves you on your own for the
last 10 minutes or so (the noise in the background was on the dvd).

Thanks for this.

It's a bit cheeky to plaster "UNCUT!" all over the cover when it passed 15 uncut though!

Great. I've been looking for this since I read a review a year or so ago.

Well, then, double thanks, Infect. One for the movie and two for fulfilling my request. Speaking of requests, I have filled one of my own requests and will be releasing it soon (once I get someone to rip the DVD for me)

Can't tell you on sources, Spud. By the time I read this, I already downed it. Anyway, completed and shared.

should be pretty damn high by now, but they always drop. Dead and Buried is doing well, I may need to reshare Rumpelstiltskin and/or Demonic Toys somewhere down the line, but this one seems pretty well spread.

Going to be rotating my shares later tonight possibly, since Infect is moving on and releasing The Frighteners: Director's Cut.
