Review from Fantasia Festival (North America)
Quote: | The story starts out innocently enough. G?kalp, the editor of the high school journal, has a crush on pretty G?ldem, which he expresses through a series of carefully handwritten stories, delivered in fancy red envelopes. G?ldem?s already taken, though, and her thick-skulled boyfriend Ersin publicly humiliates G?kalp for his platonic puppy love. As a result, G?kalp commits suicide.
A year later, the university entrance exams are coming up fast and all the students in the boarding school are stressed beyond belief. G?kalp?s suicide still troubles G?ldem, especially when a series of increasingly eerie and inexplicable events begin to suggest that the lovestruck writer may be dead but not gone. In the chaos of the exam crunch, the school?s staff are far too tied up to be of any help, so it?s left to G?ldem, Ersin and their friends to confront the tragic?and possibly lethal?ghost together.
Okul turns a new page in Turkish cinema, previously devoid of anything fitting into the horror genre. Not only does Okul, which means ?school,? bring the American teen chiller to Turkey (sexy school uniforms and clownish teachers intact), it also challenges the mores and conventions of Turkish society. Far from the usual family-centered dramas, it?s set in a boarding school where the kids are unrestrained by any authority other than perhaps the goofy security guard Suleyman. It?s a clear effort on the part of producer Sinan ?etin and the directing duo of Yagmur and Durul Taylan (like the Wachowskis and Pangs, another brother team) to create a film that speaks to the increasingly hip and Westernized Turkish youth, blending spine-tingling terror, touching romance and an authentic eye for the joys, pains and antics of the modern teenager. ?Rupert Bottenberg |

Turkish cinema is very unproductive in Horror genre Like GaMeR said this and Seytan are the most memorable ones, but I'll search anyway.

another one came just to my mind but seems hard to get on the donkey (only one full source which doesn't give away much).
Drakula Istanbul'da: ed2k://|file|Fantastik.T?rk.Sinemas?.-.Drakula.?stanbul'da.AVI|260167680|BF7FBADC9669464E7D4FC3BEFCBBFD41|/
i've got also a mini-version (about 28mb) of this (bad quality, was a stream from a website) which i have in share (if somebody wants to have it): ed2k: dracula_istanbulda.asf [27.93 Mb] [ Stats] [ Add all 2 links to your ed2k client ]

This movie is the adaptation of a book called Hayalet Kitap (Ghost Book). I went to see it in the cinema. It's more of a comedy rather than a horror movie. there are also some obscure Turkish horror movies, too other than Seytan (Exorcist) and Drakula İstanbul'da. There is one called Oluler Konusmaz ki (Dead People Don't Talk) from the seventies and a rather recent one from 1995 called Karanlık Sular (Dark Water - not relevant to Nakata's movie ) Turkish cinema in the sixties and seventies is full of fantastic themes, sword and sorcery, superheroes, sci-fi etc along with westerns and erotic movies... It is a colorful era.. Those movies are more fun to watch than Okul, I guarantee you that
