Quote:
Point' - refers to a once strategically important region in an island 150 km south of HO Chi Minh city.
French soldiers were fascinated by the beauty of the island, upon which a leisure facility and a military
hospital were built. But the area has a secret past, a haunting curse untold for 30 years.
1st Vietnamese War -1949- 12 French soldiers who were in battle with communist guerrillas went
mysteriously missing. A total of 650 people have been reported missing there without any explanation.
2nd Vietnamese War -1972- 9 Korean soldiers went missing in the area. There are accounts of unexplainable
radio transmissions sent by the group for 6 months requesting to be rescued.
Are these freak occurrences real or not? The fact is that a gravestone which says 'No return' still stands,
marking the entrance of the area. In addition, to this day, there are reported sightings by local people of
the girl who was slaughtered mercilessly a long time ago.

some conclusive thoughts of mine about r-point
buildin up a lotta hopes for that flick is a mistake imo.
not that its a bad one, not at all; i actually believe i`d rate it higher than it objectively deserves.

its got a fancy imagery, photography for a horror gem is really top notch and even pretty darn original at times.
it creates a decent amount of tension (can be done and has been done better tho), but exactly there lies the major problem for me, cuz the farther into the movie, the more the movie makers arc-of-suspense devices seem to fail for me.
whats it mean exactly for this movie ?
cant really tell precisely, maybe u will sense it as well when u watch it (and u should!).
by the time it reaches its showdown, it writes "uneven" all over the screen.
and theres the next problem (for me at least it was)- i did have some expectations for the finale; was i thinking i would get a high tension adrenaline rushing ending ? yeah i was, but didnt get it.
i thought it was sort of a halfass compromise between a "worthy horror flick conclusion" and the infamous but omnipresent sociocritical, introspective, thought-provoking ending, that basically all korean flicks are laden with as if it was an unstoppable virus.

if they went ALL THE WAY in terms of shock-and-thrill-moments-delivery, gave the characters a little more quality (as there were some potent actors on the set, no doubt), created a bit more transparency as to where they wanted to go with the plot and tightened the flow & the action a bit, this would be one wicked banger.
its a (technically) exceptionally well conceived action-spook-thriller as it is.
ghosts of mars comes to mind when thinking of a 'similar' concept and set up (note please, that theyre entirely different in style and execution tho).

so finally, after all that analysing blahsay blahsay, here comes a definite RECOMMENDATION from me for yall to leech this flick- it does have qualities, u arent likely to see with many contemporary horror gems.
atmo: 8/10 - action: 6.3 - suspense: 7.2 - plot: 5.4 - tech exec: 8.8 - characters: 6.7 - overall: 7/10

I agree with you  - even the score 7/10 - could have so easily been a 8 or 9 if the finale had a bit more....ehm ...well PUNCH/IMPACT?whatever one calls it...

Once again , this is better than the average Korean "horror/thriller" stuff we get bombarded with these days....(Watching another ,"Blood Rain" , as I type this....boo-Ooring crap so far)

Could anyone post an original language audio stream? the one on my copy seems to have been overdubbed in dutch, pretty damned irritating.

Never mind, purchased it now.

The PLuS-rip has packed bitstream and is thus standalone-UNfriendly.

Downloading the AXiNE-rip now. Does the JUNO-rip have any subs, or can I use the same subs as on the AXiNE-rip?
