England is torn in civil strife as the Royalists battle the Parliamentary Party 
for control. This conflict distracts people from rational thought and allows 
unscrupulous men to gain local power by exploiting village superstitions. One of
these men is Matthew Hopkins, who tours the land offering his services as a 
persecutor of witches. Aided by his sadistic accomplice John Stearne, he travels
from city to city and wrenches confessions from "witches" in order to line his 
pockets and gain sexual favors. When Hopkins persecutes a priest, he incurs the 
wrath of Richard Marshall, who is engaged to the priest's niece. Risking treason
by leaving his military duties, Marshall relentlessly pursues the evil Hopkins

A question for the ripper, which version is this? You've not marked if its the american cut with the "wrong" sound track, the continental/export version (which is supposed to be the best), or the "Director's cut".

I'm guessing its the american cut with the "wrong" soundtrack and not the original one? The european/export one has more nudity and the original soundtrack, which is what people will probably be expecting from "uncut".

If the music is changed its not the original one; i think only the european cut has the extra nudity in and the original soundtrack

On a note of uncutiness, there will never be an "uncut" version of this movie because the bbfc completely overstepped their bounds and censored the actual script before shooting began.

A sad tale of a nazi-esque style censorship board that I hope history remembers as truely shameful.

Thats why I waited for this dvd, and sadly after comparing it with the 'uncut' version (same as you are linking to), I found out this isn't remotely uncut.

I reckons it all boils down to the word "uncut". Its often used wrongly for my definition of the word.

I have to protest to people saying the Canne's Cut of Dawn of the Dead is uncut, whilst the Theatrical one is cut. Sorry but that's bollocks. What they mean is it has more footage in it, it doesn't mean its been "cut"/"censored"/ etc. by a censoring body. With differing versions of films like this, its wrong to claim its uncut because its too alternative versions both will have had to be submitted to censors. If the censors force a re-editing, then i would say it is cut.

That admin was probably just using 'uncut' to mean it wasn't a censor board's censored print of the already pre-censored print (by the studio); the problem was, it was merely pre-censored before submitting to avoid being officially censored :matrix:

In this case though, the pre-censored print I would argue was not the original intent of the director and merely a way of pandering to the bbfc. So i guess i would understand claims on saying it is cut.

I prefer to use the concept of editions:
A movie has several editions, each one can be uncut, but be different editings of the film. Take Dawn of the Dead, you can have theatrical, cannes, and argento editions, all of which can be cut or uncut. The bbfc censored the theatrical and canne's version, for example, and later released them both uncut. However when you compare two different editions, its only fair to claim they are extended/director's intentional/alternate, unless the edition came about as a direct result of being rejected by a censor board. In a case like this, I'd want the uncensored edition, which has been uncut by any censoring body.

And it doesn't have them!

Plus I have to rerip the other one, cause I deleted it, after hearing news about a new cut coming out. And really

cause of the crappy quality of that cut.

And my trust has been totally raped by an admin! (oke he might not know it, and might not even intended it that way, and is possible even more pissed about this cut as me), but still how can I trust an admin ever again?

I have seen this movie during its original release in a Belgian theater. I'm very familiar with it, having seen all the versions through the following years...
First, the "nude sequences" were NOT filmed by Michael Reeves. This is explained in details in a recent volume on Reeves, published in England. So, if a print has the "clothed" sequences, it CAN'T be considered as "cut". To the contrary, it's the legitimate version.
Some years ago, a British company made an attempt to re-construct the original version, re-integrating the gory shots (filmed by Reeves, but cut in the British release print). Unfortunately, these shots came from an inferior source, and it was painfully visible.
But, later (some two years ago), French company NEO released the same complete version, with a noticeable difference: this time, they got a totally uncensored 35mm print, so the gory shots are fully integrated to the movie, they are of the same (splendid) quality.
The recent American DVD has EXACTLY the same source than the French disc. It didn't contain the "nude" sequences (as they were filmed by another man as I told), but is 100% the movie that Michael Reeves filmed.
It doesn't include the Edgar Allan Poe's poem, but this also was purely added by the American distributor, AIP - and was never a part of the ORIGINAL movie.
And of course it also has the original music by Paul Ferris (who also plays in the movie, as the young husband whose wife is burned alive).
And it wears the original title: "Matthew Hopkins - The Witchfinder General".

IN OTHER TERMS, if the movie shared by Vae Victis on this thread is the last one released in the USA some weeks ago (as it appears to be) it's the ONLY legitimate version of this movie, and to my knowledge is COMPLETE, as all the so-called "missing" things (nude breasts, Edgar Allan Poe's poem, other music, etc.) were purely worthless US additions to this British masterpiece.
So, you can erase the word "CUT" - it's not.

Reading a bit more, the nude scenes were shot during original production, just not by the director but the second unit/assistant director.
