You're right Spud, apparently I'd been "misinformed". Took 3 attempts, but someone eventually got back to me with the correct information.

Gmail it is then.

LOL!

You guys have got to read this, this is one of the bizarrest letters an isp has ever sent me. There's absolutely no reason they would send it to me since i've never complained or had any problems so i'm guessing they sent it to everyone:
Image

As strange as it, i've never once seen remorse in any isp... its rather scarey, i wonder if one of the letters sent in reduced her to tears

lol @ our focus will be... what on earth was the focus before?

That indeed is strange, but a hell of a lot better than the sterile announcements you get from other ISPs. Example is Pipex and every downtime - status page usually ends in a totally insincere apology.

bulldog are probably still the most prominent, eclipse are just as shitty as the rest of the entire countries isps. They screwed over one of my mates @ leeds, so they sound like the rest of them. They missed the activation date, they lied about the line speed and they charged him the wrong amount of money...

each to his own but i've got no complaints using Eclipse :D

mind you i don't see Bulldog on this list, granted lists generally do mean nothing but there's sufficient enough feedback here or here that would make me more wary of Bulldog :wacky:

Its a tad unfair that the bulldog user count is about 20x more than that of eclipse is it not? Not only does it have a huge userbase, it has a higher internet speed upto 8mbit atm, unbundled exchanges etc.

I'm sure if eclipse was that big it would be complained about as much as the rest of them.

That's the problem with bulldog, they've totally overstretched the company and didn't manage it well, i'm glad i got it all sorted before they messed it up

Little news article about smaller isps being less complained about (duh, but they mean you have less trouble with them):
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/ ... 864,00.htm

I believe nildrum is the best isp these days, the fastest anyway iirc. Then again i've heard a lot of complaints and rumours of capping there too.

edit: lol, must be in the 36%

holy shit!

Bulldog about to appear with 20Mbps broadband?
http://adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=2357
Quote:
The PR battle appears to have commenced. Be this morning announced its ADSL2+ service, and it seems Bulldog are close to bringing out their own 20 Meg offering. More detail on The Register.

It is interesting the comments were made at a time when an ISP was attempting to retain a customer, so how accurate it is, is not clear. There is a danger if the PR machines get carried away in the next few months with talk of 8, 10, 18, 20 and 24Mbps broadband services that people may be disappointed, by delays in a service arriving in their area and the actual throughput once they have a service.

ADSL2+ which can give up to 24Mbps, is not going to magically overcome the physics that result in signal attenuation over the copper local loop. In fact the fall off in speed as you get further from the exchanges is more rapid with ADSL2+, with performance roughly matching that of standard ADSL once the line length is roughly 3km. Therefore the only people likely to see much benefit are those who have a line that can support 2Mbps currently.

One marketing trick to watch out for, is that ADSL providers are promoting up to 8Mbps ADSL services, this applies equally to LLU and BT Wholesale up to 8Mbps services. The 8Mbps normally refers to a connection that syncs with the exchange at up to 8192 kilo bits per second. Once you allow for the traffic overheads between the exchange and your ADSL modem, the maximum TCP/IP throughput will be around 7300 kilo bits per second. Obviously this is still a lot faster than the currently popular 2Mbps connections, but if comparing a service with a 10Mbps cable connection, it is one issue worth bearing in mind.

lol, yeah and that will happen when there's an armed coup and all rival isps are killed. Seriously won't happen, certainly not if Demon buy out eclipse and it goes down the crapper. :( hope for your sake it folds ;)

last mention of Demon buying Eclipse that i could find was dated september 2004 unless you know otherwise....so i guess it fell through or they are seriously slow at deciding there business plan?

There's very little to choose between Eclipse and Nildram unless the latter is capped. Both beat Bulldog, according to this.

One ISP started rolling out 20Mb adsl2+ out here too

so far a fiasco !

Half the subscribers still waiting to get connected into the network that's not rolled out yet completely , half of those that did manage to obtain it before promised delivery date doesn't get full speed....(outside a range of what, 500 m (~1/3 mile or so) = :P YOU'RE FUCKED :P )....

Keep in mind it's bundled with a digital cable subscription package ... oh and exclusive dutch premier league television rights :wacky: ....

(Also ,mind you ,if you have only 2 tv's requiring 2 seperate signals at 8 mb/s a piece , JUST SEE HOW FAST YOU RUN OUT OF BANDWIDTH !!!!!)

Hello alice , wake up and feel the concrete

no shit shurlock, but i was they reduce the download speed when you hit their limit on that isp that's no different to capping and i doubt their fast internet service will be any different

are you going with eclipse/nildram pca? i mean if people are having problems with bulldog, you might as well not risk it, i doubt they'll get the faster lines that much before anyone else.
