Has there ever been a worse director? From an interesting opinion from the imdb message board for Hunter: the Reckoning another great video game Boll plans on destroying sometime in 2006:
I KNOW HIM
"because i was an apprentice at a german production company in a city named wiesbaden. he was working there as a producer/director for the worst german movies.
he helped me with some film rolls for my own short film and i have to say he is a nice guy. he loves movies, has not a bad taste, he?s a maniac and a workaholic. in 1997 he talked much about directing/producing big budget hollywood films, he mentioned the name "Bruce Willis". of course, nobody believed him because even in germany he was a bad director ("das erste semester" is so bad...)
so i have to tribute respect to him for aiming his goal.
but now i think he is not very smart as a director. he is definately NOT good enough for directing this kind of movies. he has no new ideas and he is absolutely not able to tell the audience a dramatic story. ok he?s filming videogames but he does it in his own growing paranoid universe.
the voice of the audience doesn?t interest him if it?s critical, and he has the duty (like p.jackson at lotr) to satisfy the fans of the vg.
if he doesn?t want that he shouldn?t do that kind of movies.
But he does, because he?s a hell of a genius in producing movies. he buys the filming rights of these games (why no one else??) and they all make the hell of a money, so he gains the right to exist further on as a director.
but sooner or later the budgets of his movies go up (hunter costs 60 million (!!)) so he has a higher risk of failure. and if he?s not able to touch the audience he will fail. so, either he gets better or he continues only in producing films which are probably better directed (from anyone but him). so just wait and pray that he doesn?t touch halflife or silent hill.."
im with you there my german brother.. if there is a god, he would strike dead anyone who would let this hack touch the Half-Life franchise. hes already sullied the likes of house of the dead and now (ugh...) bloodrayne one of my fav games...

Sounds like he'd be perfect for directing a Bruce Willis flick.

lol yeah right! you know, my biggest fear is that he gets ahold of something like half life, or halo. though i dont see uwe boll ever directing a halo movie. as much as i really dislike bill gates i cant see him turning the helm of microsofts flagship game over to a utter jackass like boll.

Unfortunately i fail to see why would any credible director be interested, generally, to direct a movie based on a computer game...? Such things are better left for the likes of Mr. Boll, if they really have to be done.
And Bruce Willis would be the perfect actor for such movies, too..
PS: Also i don't exactly agree that the director would have the responsibility to satisfy the demands of the game's fans...better he'd strive a bit higher than that
Btw, i love Doom games but am just dumbfounded about the Doom movie..

i agree for the most part, however i think that there are some game franchises such as half life or halo or for that matter bloodrayne (i mean come on a story about a vampire fighting nazis and other vampires how cool is that?) that has an extremely rich world in which to tell a story.
the thing that really pisses me off about boll is that swaggering arrogence. i mean mostly its laughable but at the same time its mind blowing. in a recent interview boll went on the record to say that his upcoming movie dungeon siege was going to blow away lotr!! lol i mean sometimes you gotta laugh at it, but its when he says hes doing these things for the fans then yeah i would say he does carry a responsiblity to live up to those expectations.
yeah i dont get the doom trailers ive seen either. it looks awful.

I dunno about that on games, if your fanatical about a book, they make a movie of the book. I just don't imagine many established director into gaming in a big way. With the budget of games growing exponentially, I'm not surprised to see them turning into films. I just can't imagine any "traditional" big director even owning a games console.
And don't knock bruce willis, he has die hard, Pulp Fiction, etc. and films like Last Boy Scout under his wing, which is so far beyond Uwe Boll's caliber i think your insulting Bruce Willis.

One more thing:
Code: | my biggest fear is that he gets ahold of something like half life, or halo |
Microsoft have a established a deal that prevents people like Uwe Boll from touching it:
http://megagames.com/news/show.cgi?&idt ... 37&page=0&
Thing is, halo is a really shit game... i really wouldn't care if uwe boll made a movie of it since it about on his level ie. totally lame.
HL on the other hand would be a disastor for him to make.

However, those movies that are good that have Bruce Willis in them...are they not good usually _despite_ of him being there? Rather than because he's there, that is. He's just such a one-note one-faced actor, and he looks almost comical when he tries to be emotional/intelligent.
i'm not a big fan of Pulp Fiction, but i do admit the film has its merits, especially technically...but when discussing the virtues of the movie, the performance of Bruce Willis often doesn't get many mentions. i guess he's best in Die Hard, though, which just goes to show what kind of movies he's good at
Meaning, Die Hard is a good and solid movie, a very good action movie, maybe even an action movie masterpiece, but i don't think it's exactly reasonable to compare it to serious movies and insist that it's as good as a masterpiece of another genre, like Spider, or Halloween. It's just a good entertainment movie.

thats true i have a love/hate relationship with bruce. i mean there are some movies hes outstanding in, like pulp fiction but then there are others that are just horrible.
personally yeah i think pulp fiction wouldve been a good movie without him. but what about sin city? that movie rocked. it was not your normal action movie and while IMO it was THE ROURKE'S stage all the way, willis came in with a pretty close second place on that one. and i dont think they couldve cast a better actor for his part.

I've seen enough Bruce Willis flicks and for the most part I did find them all somewhat entertaining. I just think he's a bit 'one-dimensional' as far as his talent as an actor is concerned.

ok, Uwe Boll really sucks, but there are rumors that he actually might have directed one flick worth watching ==>>> Amoklauf (1992)
supposedly it's about serial killer, with some quite disturbing scenes, and grim atmosphere.
but i've never come across it, though. anyone has it?

don't think they would, but MGS is an overrated piece of crap anyway. Wow look at how revolutionary mgs2 is... err. no, and wasn't their one on the snes anyway, i'm pretty sure there was something like metal gear.
They pretend to be all high and mighty with that franchise but boy does it not deserve it.
yawn... Boring Snake.

i believe i remember reading on IMDB somewhere that Kojima has no plans on selling the rights to metal gear at all.

Outsells 90-95 % of all other games - including nintendo's - I'd say that they have the right to be a tad cocky....
Ofcourse ,as demonstrated again , it will always remain unacceptable for NINTENDO pelgrims to believe that there was gaming AND gameplay long before the first crappy NES machine ever saw the light ......
I was playing snake as what, 6-7 year old on my good old MSX & tapedeck...it even had a sequel that never got ported to that F*^&@!# NES....
Still , it baffles me why you slag off MGS while you probably CAN get excited about a HL2 flick - talk about overrated
